Mini Projects for Lectures 7 & 8

1. Comparison of fatigue life prediction for high-cycle and low-cycle


fatigue conditions with typical examples of each.
2. Development of a user friendly computer program for calculating the stress amplitude
at different mean stress values according to Gerber, Goodman, and Soderberg
equations for different materials. The program should include a data base fatigue
strength of the most widely used engineering metallic materials.
3. Creep characteristics and mechanical properties of typical creep resisting
alloys and their different high temperature industrial applications.
4. Stress relaxation principles, modeling, and case studies.

Dead time: Monday 31 May, 2021 at 12.00 noon.

Reminder of the instructions specified in the notes of the first lecture:

Mini Projects:
 Topics of Mini Projects are announced each lecture as relevant to the covered topics.
 Each student should submit 3 Projects throughout the term according to the
following conditions:
o Submission should be during the lecture 2 weeks after the date of
announcement (i.e. prepared within 2 weeks).
o Delayed presentations are not permitted.
 Your role in the presentation should be clear. At least 3 authenticated references
(different from the course references, and published within the last ten years
only, i.e. after 2010) should be used. Copying a report from one source will not be
accepted.
 Each Project should be presented according to the technical report writing standards
and presentation skills.
 The Project should be submitted as an e-mail directly to the lecturer including:
1. A report in word, starting by the standard cover page.
2. ppt presentation, and
3. Copies of the source references.
