Since the beginning of the era of automation, our behaviour towards the creation of machines

evolved so as to answer new expectations or standards.

Firstly, when autonomous machines were thought as a dream or were aborted by open-minded
scientists who gave up, we made tools so as to simplify our tasks.

Secondly, we entailed a watershed by the creation of the first autonomous machines like the
Pascaline made by Blaise Pascal in 1645. Then, these technologies had been widespread all over the
world and can be found currently in our industries.

From now on, engineers and research scientists are developping a new part of robotics field named
cobotics. Collaborative robots or cobots are machines made in order to interact with humans for a
specific task and without hasard.

Cobots are becoming famous thanks to an array of companies or research centers which develop
state-of-the-art technology around this sector.

For instance, the company Universal Robots sold more than 50 000 cobots designed like human
arms for industries with the pledge to create a safer area.

The French company Leka made an educational cobot so as to help mentally disabled children being
integrated in society as fully-fledged citizens thanks to lessons adapted to the issues they are facing
with.

Finally, researchers of a French institute which name is ISIR are studying the project of a cobot using
the eyesight but also sounds or touch in order to perform surgeries. This project called FAROS could
enable a breakthrough in medicine.

Needless to say that cobots can open new paths for scientists thanks to their harmless behaviour
and for sociologists by impeding mass dismissal.

But is it relevant to state that cobots are more useful than the autonomous robots made for
industries ? Not really.

According to Sebastien Ecault, the CEO of E-Cobot this innovation can be compared as a dog for
blinded people whereas autonomous robots seems like a lion surrounded by a cage in a circle for
entertainment.

The first machine is made so as to support people for a task whereas the second will perform a task
without any help but its control exacts to be gifted. Otherwise, the lion will eat you and the robot
will entail injuries.
