Battle of la Rochelle – Scenario Notes
• A Castilian fleet in the service of France has caught the English fleet anchored
before la Rochelle. The tide is low but rising; many English ships are aground
• The battle is fought on a 4’ by 3’ table using the small action rules
• The English fleet sets up in the Eastern half of the table. No ship may be within
3” of any other ship. All ships start the game aground. The Castilian fleet enters
along the Western edge
• To win the Castilian fleet must destroy or capture at least 10 of the English
ships and not lose more than 8 ships The English win if the Castilian victory
conditions are not achieved.
• The English ships start the game aground. Each turn roll 2d6 for each English
ship. The ship floats off if the die roll is lower than the current game turn.
• Castilian ships are shallow draft craft. All begin the game afloat.
• The entire table is designated as Shallows (see rulebook page 18).This lasts until
turn 6 when the tide is assumed to have risen sufficiently high to prevent further
accidental grounding (English ships that are still aground continue to roll to
float off)
