Interference

Interference occurs when two waves of the same frequency are simultaneously
present at the same place and are coherent. The two waves combine to form a single
wave whose intensity depends not only on the intensities of the two individual
waves, but also on the phase difference between them.

Monochromatic light
Monochromatic light, or one-color light, is essentially electromagnetic radiation
derived from photon emissions from atoms.
The light consists of a single wavelength is called monochromatic light and the light
consists of a broad range of wavelengths is called multichromatic light.
For example, White light is a combination of several wavelengths corresponding to
different colours of light. As we know, the white light is composed of seven colours
known as VIBGYOR. We Can consider every colour individually like the
monochromatic light and analyse their interference individually.
Wavelength Standards
In wavelength standard, linear distance is expressed as multiples of wavelegth
For eg. 1 meter is defined as 1650763 times the wavelength of the Kr 86 Emission.
The advantages of using wave for measurement is that their properties are
independedent of ambient conditions. They are highly accurate and can be
reporoduced anywhere without error.
