Squealer's Propaganda essay

In Gearge Orwell’s Animal Farm, Squealer has dubbed that Snowball is a traitor to the

farm. Snowball is traitor to the farm by squealers using many rhetorical devices and techniques

such as attacking the person, pathos , false cause and effect, and logos.

Squealer uses attacking the person as well as pathos to persuade the other animals that

Snowball is a traitor. To convey this Squealer appeals to the other animals' emotions by,

Squealer stating that,” Snowball's rebellion was caused simply by his vanity and

ambition.”(Orwell 7). This would hurt Snowball's reputation and cause all the animals to side

with the pigs. Because they believe Snowball is a part of the human and in this part of the story

they believe all humans are evil. Squealer also brought to attention that,”Snowball was in league

with Jones from the very start!”(Orwell 7). This will make the other animals see Snowball as

they do all the other humans, and grow to hate and fear Snowball. This would take away from all

the good things that Snowball has done for them and make him seem selfish. To conclude this

shows how Squealer makes Snowball out to be a traitor by using his supposed connections to the

humans.

Squealer also uses false cause and effect as well as logos to deduct everyone of

Snowballs actions. Squealer makes Snowball's action bad by making Napoleon a hero by

Snowball almost succeeding, “ if it had not been for [their] heroic Leader, Comrade
Napoleon.”(orwell 7). This transfers the good actions from Snowball to Napoleon and makes

Napoleon a hero. This affects all the other animals by making them follow their false hero

because they could trust and support his lies due to their lack of information. Squealer further

made Napoleon a hero by “Comrade Napoleon [springing] forward with a cry of 'Death to

Humanity!' and sank his teeth in Jones's leg”(Orwell 7). This makes Napoleon actions and his

role as a leader valid due to his actions in the battle. This puts the pigs on a pedestal that will be

hard for any of the other animals from disproving them.
