DINING TRADITIONS

The main purpose of this report is to describe and analyse Spanish dining
customs. Moreover, I will compare if these customs have changed from the past
until now. I also will make some suggestions and recommendations concerning
the future of these traditions.

MAIN CHARACTERISTICS
Spanish dining traditions are completely different to the rest of Western
Countries. Lunch is the primary meal of the day while breakfast and dinner have
less importance. Furthermore, the meals time is very strange as well. It is very
common that Spaniards begin to have lunch at 2 or 3 pm and they usually dine
at 10 pm approximately.

HAVE THESE DINING TRADITIONS CHANGED?

These traditions have not changed a lot from the past. However, there is a new
trending custom which has changed a bit spanish traditions: “Going for tapas”.
This custom is a new spanish brand which attract attention os foreign visitors.
Nowadays, people get used to “going for tapas” delaying lunch time more than
usual.

SHOULD SPAIN CHANGE THESE TRADITIONS?

To sum up, I believe that these customs should not change because these
dining traditions build Spanish identity and make Spaniards differents. It is said
that “Spain is different”. I would make the following recommendations to
encourage people to mantain these customs for the future:
 Government must launch aggressive marketing plans which can reforce
Spanish image and their traditions.
 Spanish people should invite foreign visitors to join with them, going for
tapas and discover that these different customs are as good as their
own.
