Q1. Consider the steady, incompressible plane flow

around the sharp leading edge of a wedge with a half
angle of 𝜃 = 10°. The gravitational effects may be
neglected. Using inviscid flow theory, determine
a) the location of the stagnation point(s) in this flow,
b) the equation of the streamline that simulates the
wedge surface,
c) the velocity, U(x), along the wedge surface, and
d) the pressure gradient along the flow on the wedge surface. Is the pressure increasing or decreasing along
the wedge surface?

Q2. Water flows over a flat surface at 1.2 m/s, as shown in the figure. A pump draws off water through a
narrow slit at a volumetric flow rate of 0.01 m3/s per meter length of the slit. Assume that the fluid is
incompressible and inviscid.

0.01 m3/s (per meter length of the
slit) so 0.01 m3/s /m = 0.01 m2/s

a) Determine the location of the stagnation point on the wall (point A)

b) Determine the equation of the stagnation streamline.
c) How far above the surface, 𝐻, must the fluid in the uniform flow be so that it does not get sucked into
the slit?
