Chapter 3

METHODOLOGY

This chapter gives an outline of research methods that were followed in

the study. It provides information on the research design that was chosen for
the purpose of this study, population and sampling, respondents of the study,
research instrument, data gathering procedure and statistical treatment of
data.

Research Design
Among the quantitative research methods, the researchers used Causal
Research to investigate the effects of peer pressure on the study habits
specifically to the grade 12 STEM students of TIP-QC. It aims to explain the
information gathered and the investigation of cause-and-effect relationships
between these two variables. This design was used in order to match with the
purpose of the researchers to make a conclusion through investigating how
the peer pressure takes an important role in students' study habits.

Population and Sampling

This study aims to gathered data from Senior High School (SHS) STEM
students in TIP-QC School Year (SY) 2017-2018. The population size of
morning and afternoon class of Grade 12 STEM students is two-thousand and
one hundred eighty three (2,183). The researchers used Slovin's formula to
calculate the sample size and used 5% of margin of error which allowed
probability of committing an error in selecting representative of the
population. In selecting three-hundred thirty eight (338) STEM students, the
researchers used a simple random sampling in which each STEM students
have an equal probability of being chosen to avoid biases. It is one of the most
popular types of probability sampling because the entire process of sampling
is done in a single step with each subject selected independently of the other
members of the population.
