What do students do on
mangahigh?
The Mangahigh system automatically personalise a list of
activities to your students based on their age and learning
levels. Upon first login, students will be asked to enter their Year
of Birth, which generates an initial list of activities, found under
‘recommended’. This initial list is usually around 2 years lower
than the indicated age, but will continue to evolve as students
complete more work on Mangahigh. It will also identify any
areas of weaknesses/gaps in student maths skills, and
recommends additional activities to bridge these gaps.
Teachers may also
like to assign tasks to
their students. Step
‘5’ of this guide will
take you through this
easy process.

Students can also

‘Browse’ additional
tasks – this is a great
opportunity to revisit
activities for revision,
and to earn extra
medal points.
What are the types of
activities on mangahigh?
There are two types of activities:
1) Prodigi adaptive quiz (refer to
Appendix 1 for more
information). Always attempt
each activity a minimum of 3
times (different questions at
each attempt), aiming to
answer 4+ Hard questions
correctly.
2) Games activities (refer to
Appendix 2) – most games are
available on iPads. Refer to the
Appendix 2 for a full list.
From the student page, simply click on the activity box, then on
the pink ‘play’ button to start the lesson
HOW TO ASSIGN ACTIVITIES TO
YOUR STUDENTS
All activities on Mangahigh are arranged based on the curriculum of
your choice. To view and/or assign these activities, follow these steps:
How do students check
their own progress?
From the student page, click on their name, and look under ‘My
Decorations’ to see their progress in either a Bronze, Silver or Gold
medallion.
Students can click on ‘School’ to view their school’s overall progress
and position on the challenge leaderboard.
Checking school progress
The Mangahigh system runs a
monthly leaderboard. Teachers can
check the monthly leaderboard The
Maths Ninja Challenge leaderboard
to see your school’s progress.

The number of points is the total

medal points earned by all
participating students, collectively.

A Bronze medal earned by a student

adds 1 medal point, a Silver medal
earned contributes 2 medal points,
and a Gold medal earned adds 3
medal points.

Click on ‘Profile’ below the points to

reveal the top 10 contributing
students at your school.
Student REWARDS and Prizes
Once a year, we run an Asia Pacific competition, where students are
awarded with a medallion, which we send to your school to be
distributed to your students.

Regularly, we will also mail out certificates of achievements.

Virtual tutor recommendations
The Mangahigh system automatically identify weaknesses/gaps in
knowledge in each individual student, then individually recommend
further activities to each student to support their personalised
learning. This improves student learning outcomes dramatically –
intelligently being supported at exactly the right time, at the right
level.
Simply click on ‘recommended’ from the student page to access these
supporting activities.
Remember, students need to attempt an assigned activity 3+ times
before the virtuak tutor recognises the failed attempt.
Tips
1. During normal use of Mangahigh, we recommend assigning 2-3 Prodigi activities

with 1 Game activity per week (this equates to approximately 30-45 mins).

2. During the challenge, you can assign additional work – so think of areas of maths

(eg. Times tables) that your students can benefit from with extra revision

3. It is actually easier (and more predictable) to earn a medal in the Prodigi quiz, than

it is on Games. Remind your students of this. It takes less time to earn a medal on

Prodigi – just remember to attempt each task 3 times, and review incorrect

answers before re-attempting.

4. Here are two games that are easy and quick to earn medals: Jetstream Riders and

Jabara. Assign JETSTREAM RIDERS during the challenge – these help students

practise their speed and recall in addition, subtraction, times table and division.

5. Visit http://info.mangahigh.com/auteachers for teacher resources

What is Prodigi
and
how to succeed using prodigi

13
What is prodigi?
Prodigi is a quiz. Each ‘round’ of the
quiz consists of 10 questions. You should
aim to attempt each Prodigi quiz 3
times.

Here are some things to remember about PRODIGI:

1) The very first time you attempt a lesson, the Skill Level will start at EASY
2) There are 10 questions for every ‘round’ of Prodigi lesson (remember, you
need to complete a minimum of 3 rounds to complete a minimum of 30
questions in total)
3) Each question is timed. The harder the questions, the more time you have
to answer the question. To move up to the next level, you’ll need to get 3
in a row correct answers.
4) Always click on TEACH ME to do the Learn Mode before you start
5) Click to PLAY the quiz when you are ready
6) Earn 4200 points to pass – get a BRONZE MEDAL

THE IMPORTANCE OF REVIEWING INCORRECT ANSWERS
BEFORE THE PREVIOUS ROUND BEFORE ‘PLAYING AGAIN’
As Prodigi is an adaptive quiz, it teaches you gradually. Remember, this is
not a test. It is a learning process.

So after completing each ‘round’ of

10 questions, the system will
remember the level that you are up to.

Review your incorrect answers either

by clicking on:
1) REVIEW MY QUESTIONS, or
2) CLICK ON THE RED BOXES

Make sure you have a pen and paper handy

take to take notes, and learn from the incorrect
answers.

Modelling prodigi with your students

This helps set an expectations on
best practises right from the
beginning – ensuring students will
benefit from the use of Prodigi in
the long term.
To do this, from the Gradebook
Review mode, select the activity
that you would like to use, then
click on ‘PLAY’. This will bring up
the same activity as your students
are seeing.

APPENDIx 2:
Full list of Mangahigh games

20
Mangahigh is more than just about playing games! It is the clever combination
of games and Prodigi (adaptive quizzes) lessons that makes the Mangahigh
system a success in improving learning outcomes in students. The Gradebook
allows teachers to assign both Prodigi and Games lessons for students based on
curriculum coverage.

This handbook provides an overview of all games on Mangahigh.

Mangahigh is the first true Digital Games Based Learning system to be

successfully used in classrooms globally. On Mangahigh, games are not just
used as a reward upon completion of tasks – it is where your students actually
learn and practise their maths!

Games are excellent at developing procedural fluency and mastery

– a skill that is truly lacking in many students.
With every correct (or incorrect) answer, an
interactive response, a visual cue, is initiated
– a way of ‘reinforcement learning’.
The adaptive nature of these games ensure
that students are continually challenged,
gradually build upon their skills as they learn
related skills of increasing complexity.

It is recommended that teachers assign specific

games to students based on the topics that are being
explored in class.

All games are ready-mapped to the curriculum so it is very easy

to identify relevant games.
