past years, I have accumulated enough knowledge and experience in this field that helped me hone my skills

Based on what I’ve observed, my weakness is my lack of skills in leadership. Often times I prefer to follow
someone’s lead rather than me taking in charge because I have not receive any chances on my previous work
to exercise my skills in leading. However, being a follower is just one step behind being a leader hence I am
extremely positive that this company will leverage and activate my skills. I want to work hard to fill these gaps
that I have with the help of my future co-workers and with the guidance of this company.

I am a very positive individual that always puts my best effort and whole heart in any work that I do. I
work with dedication and use my best abilities to my advantage so that my skills can purposely help the
company reach success. I am equipped with efficient knowledge in this field as reflected in my qualifications
however I am also willing to learn new things regarding this job and go beyond my limitations in order to

In any working environment stress and pressure can be always felt but I can say that I handle pressure
very well. I am a positive person and instead of being overwhelmed with stress and pressure I deal with it in a
calm and peaceful way. Pressure can affect you in a negative however it can also be your motivation. I use
stress and pressure as my stimulus in order to exert my best effort in all things that I work for. I usually assess
myself and my emotions on how I could positively deal with it without hurting myself and without hurting other

HISTORY: National Book Store Inc. or NBS is a Filipino retail company that operates
bookstores and office-supplies chain all over the Philippines. The business began its
operation in early 1930s, however it was formally established in 1942. The owners of
this successful company were the husband and wife Jose Ramos and Soccoro Cancio
or popularly known as “Nanay Coring” and “Tatay Jose”. The business was first
established at the foot of the Escolta Bridge named after the brand of the cash register
used in their store. Although the NBS became known to the public in its first launch,
success did not happen easily. The store has been brought down by a couple of
unfortunate circumstances which taught most of businesses a great story of surviving
downfalls. In 1945, National Bookstore was burned down during the Battle of Manila. It
was rebuilt again in a smaller lot along the corner of Avenida and Soler which became
the go-to place for textbooks and school supplies. However, three years later in 1948, a
typhoon wreaked havoc upon the store in which most stocks were found to be
extremely damaged. Still, these unfortunate circumstances did not frazzled the
determined spirits of the Ramoses, the couple rebuilt the store again as a two-story
shop in Avenida. This paved the way for the business to flourish which more branches
opened all over the Philippines. Its success even expanded when Nanay Coring started
to produce her own materials such as greeting cards depicting the Philippine local
culture and tradition opening up an opportunity in distributing international brands in
partnership with Hallmark. With this, NBS has able to set up book conversation and
book signing events featuring authors from all over the world to inspire and nurture new
generation of readers. Through its 220 branches all over the Philippines, 4000
employees and 1.5 million costumers a week, the business continues to root itself in
humility and goodness. In its long run, the company established the National Book Store
Foundation engaging with impoverished communities to provide its poorest schools with
libraries, supplies and aspiration. The success of the business is a living proof of its
mission that happiness is helping people.

Name of the Business: Barandino Sari-sari Store


Type of business: Sari-sari store (sole proprietorship)
Situation: Temporarily closed. Due to the restrictions of the pandemic, the store lost a couple of
consumer or buyers. Although, the store already adjusted the prices of their retailed products the
inflation rates brought by the pandemic worsened the situation of the store pushing it to close down
because profits has been cut down four folds.
Analysis: In these trying times, most of basic necessities that was sold in Barandino Sari-sari store
were affected by the inflation rates due to the lockdowns implemented worldwide which caused the
Philippine economy to reach its peak and suffer. Hence, the profits in selling retailed goods were not
enough to cover the expenses of the business in its daily operation. In addition, most of workers in
residential areas were also left unemployed because of the current situation imposed by the
pandemic limiting their ability as a consumer to buy goods. Furthermore, the owner is also forced to
consume the supplies in her store because of scarcity and limitations. These situations forced the
store to be temporarily closed down.

Name of the Business: Montery Calbayog


Type of Business: Meat shop (Franchise)
Situation: Open but experiencing multiple business struggles due to the surge of the pandemic and
the African swine fever (ASF) which affected their supplies and production. The demand of the meat
has lessen to 75% because most Filipinos were afraid to be infected of the African swine fever
resulting to increase in price in meat products.
Analysis: The business might experience probable signs of closing down because of the low demand
in meat products. The ASF affected the meat production all over the Philippines hence supplies are
only limited forcing vendors to increase their prices. These results to fewer consumers buying pork
and meat. In Calbayog City alone the price of meat and pork products range from 300-350 pesos
much higher than its original price 210 pesos. In addition, the pandemic has brought financial
struggles to families and businesses making the budget for daily living and daily business operation
tighter. Furthermore, consumers tend to leave meat out of their list nowadays because of the ASF
and is replaced by other goods such as chicken and fish product.
Name of the Business: Colourette Cosmetics
Type of Business: Online Cosmetics
Situation: Open and flourishing despite the struggles brought by the pandemic covid-19. The local
make-up brand started became known to public when CEO Nina Dizon utilized online platforms to
promote her products while addressing certain issues of the pandemic in our country.
Analysis: The business started to boom in the midst of the pandemic as the business maximized the
social media platform in promoting their products and building avenue for Filipinos to help overcome
the struggles brought by the Covid-19. Colourette has able to raised more than 1.6 million pesos in
aid for the Typhoon Ulysses victim despite of the backlash received from haters and bashers. The
raised funds were 100% donated to the typhoon victims which received multiple praises from the
public gaining a lot more consumer to patronize their products. Furthermore, the business success is
shared with charities to help alleviate the lives of some Filipinos specifically that the surge of the virus
started again.

1. What activities were you able to perform continuously? Why do you think these activities are
easy for you?
The activities that I was able to perform continuously were lying in bed, walking, sitting still
outside the house and running. I was able to perform these activities easily because it did not
require any maximum effort to exert it. In addition, I am used with doing these activities as it is
incorporated in my daily life hence it was not hard for me. Furthermore, the activities also don’t
require you to exert heavy bodily movements hence it is easier.
