Artist Statement

I have used symbols and words covering each other to create this artwork.
I used mostly straight lines to make up some shapes, however other words were entirely
circles. I noticed I had a lot of circles, and there is a meaning behind this. This meaning is
explored later.

This artwork had four symbols, each with a purpose, and significant meaning to me.
The four purposes were Family, Friends, Happiness and Direction. Each were represented
with different symbols. Family is represented with heartbeat over a heart. This shows that
my family is a lifeline of sorts, and they’re needed to keep the heartbeat going.
Friends are represented with wings around a heart. Angel wings. This too shows the
necessity of my friends in my life. The wings show that my friends are what keeps me going.
Happiness is represented with a circle. Circles are a sign of wholeness and represent a
feeling of completeness. This shows that happiness to me is the said feeling of wholeness. I
find happiness in feeling complete. However, this circle has three lines running through it,
relying on people’s knowledge of the famous saying that nothing lasts forever. The lines
show that even happiness doesn’t last forever.
Direction in shown by arrows. Direction means that a sense of direction or purpose is
something very important to me. To have a path that leads you forward.
