A distinguished and high paid Java Programmer, who has served at XYB software Solutions
Company for the past two years leading a programming team in a big project, presented a
sudden resignation letter to the management of the company. The management was shocked
by the news and called on the Programmer to know the reason why he is leaving and if
possible to lobby him by additional salary and benefits. The only reason the programmer

A government owned utility company in Ethiopia has been looking for software solutions
to support its core business processes. The preliminary assessment made by the
3
company’s IT unit revealed absence of off-the-shelf software that solves the company’s
business problems. Following this report, the management sought the support of public
enterprise engaged in software development. After short deliberation on the problem, a
consensus was reached to jointly develop the software the utility company was looking
for. As part of this decision, the two companies agreed to hire a third institution to serve
as a consultant. With this arrangement, the requirement specification and system design
duties were carried out successfully. While the developing company was moving towards
creating a prototype system and heading towards large scale development, radical system
overhaul of the utility company has been announced. Following this decision the system
development endeavors was halted and the resources committed remain in vain.
Question: Analyze the case thoroughly and recommend feasible strategies in order to
avoid such system development failure problems
The U.K. Government engaged in what is considered to be the largest public IT project of
all time, an attempt to provide electronic health records for all of the country's citizens.
The sprawling effort was begun in 2002 but failed to produce a workable system, despite
massive spending outlays about 12 billion (US$18.7 billion).
The U.K.'s Major Projects Authority concluded the project was "not fit to provide the
modern IT services that the National Health Service (NHS) needs in a highly
institutionalized health care system."
"The higher they fly the farther they fall," said Michael Krigsman, CEO of the consulting
firm Asuret, which helps companies run successful IT projects. "They tried to impose a
centralized solution onto just an enormous geographic and political base.
Question: Explore and mention the main cause of this project failure

supporting enterprise wide solutions, the new SAPcombo product supplied to Galup is
expensive in the German context and is not widely diffused in Germany and the
European Union.
The implementation of SAPcombo at Galup head quarter has been in progress for the past
two years. So far, about two modules of the product are implemented and functioning.
However, the system frequently gets stuck for unknown reason which even senior
engineers of SAP based in Addis Ababa could not fix it promptly. This has created untold
dissatisfaction at Galup, which led the top management of Galup to negotiate with SAP
