Teaching Vocabularies Material (Rooms and furnitures)

Approaches: Student Centered & CLT

Activity: Pair work
Aim: To find similarities and differences between two pictures by asking and answering
questions. To write brief descriptions of the pictures.
Target: Islamic boarding school students (Senior high school 10th grade)
Needs analysis: Based on the needs analysis, most of the students are lack of vocabulary and
the teacher said that they like to see pictures while learning. Since they have small amount of
time to improve their vocabulary, I chose this technique so that they can improve their
vocabulary and enjoy their learning progress.

Adopt:
This teaching activity allows the students to work in pair with their friends. Both of them will
receive a different picture of a living room. They need to spot the things in the pictures and
write down the name of those things (vocabularies). If they do not know, they may open their
dictionary. After they write all of the words, the other student will start to ask them about the
things in their picture. For example, “Is there a sofa in your living room?” and they will
answer whether there is a sofa or there is no sofa in their living room. If yes, then their friend
will ask the amount and the color of the things in their living room”. After their friend collect
and take notes all the information about their living room, then it is time to switch (take turns
in asking the things).
After they do the above activity, they need to tell the others in front of the class about their
friend's living room and the rest of the students may anything about it.
Adapt:
Note that this activity is suitable for face to face class meeting. For the online class meeting,
the teacher will send the pictures to each students and each pair may start to discuss about
their pictures in a new room (link) from an online meeting platform. After that, they may
present about their friends' living room to others in the original online meeting room.
