hours. (8 marks)
QUESTION 3
A steel disc has a diameter of 12 cm and is of thickness 2.5 cm. a semi-circular groove of
diameter 2 cm has been machined centrally around the rim to form a pulley. Find the
volume of the pulley, volume of metal removed and mass of the pulley in kilograms if
the density of steel is 7.8 g/cm3. (15 marks)
QUESTION 4
b. By making use of the graph and drawing suitable straight lines, find the
solutions of the following equations:
a. The perimeter of a triangle is 42 cm, one side is of length 14 cm and the area is
21√ cm2. Find the length of the other sides and show that the cosine of the
largest angle is ¼. (7 marks)
b. In a triangle ABC, the lengths of sides AB, BC and AC are 7 cm, 2 cm and b cm
respectively. Angle C is 30o. by using cosine formula show that
b2 – (2√ ) b – 45 = 0.
Hence find the exact value of b leaving your answer in the form a√ where a and
√
c are real numbers. Show that sin B = (8 marks)
