The Mouse Deer and The Cow

The following is the tale of Mouse Deer which tells the story of The Mouse Deer and
the Cow. The story of a crocodile biting a cow but the cow managed to escape from
the crocodile thanks to the cleverness of the mouse deer.

In the forest there is a large meadow, inhabited by the Cow family. They have a calf
which is growing up. The calf has great curiosity. Once upon a time the calf saw a
river. He asked his mother's permission to take a walk.

"Mother, I want to take a walk around the river. Can you?" asked the Calf.

"Yes, my son, but you have to be careful. Lots of crocodiles in the river. You don't
trust crocodiles easily, son." his mother advised.

The Calf cheerfully went to the river to play. He was very happy to see the small fish
swimming here and there in the river. Suddenly he heard a cry for help which turned
out to be a crocodile. Mr.Crocodile was crushed by a large fallen tree. The calf
remembered his mother's advice to be careful with crocodiles.

"Help me good cow." said Mr. Crocodile.

"What is it, Mr. Crocodile? Why are you crushed by a fallen tree?" asked the Calf.
"At the time of the earthquake, I didn't realize that there was a big tree near me that
had fallen. So I was crushed by a tree. Please let me go, good calf." Mr. Crocodile
begged for help.

"I don't want to help you, because if you are free from that tree you will definitely eat
me." Calf refuses to help Mr.Crocodile.

"If you don't help me now I will surely die, so I promise I won't eat you Calf." Mr.
Crocodile was pitiful.

"Okay then I'll help you." said the Calf.

The Calf then with great difficulty pushed the big tree trunk. Mr.Crocodile finally
released from the crush of the tree. After releasing, suddenly Mr. Crocodile's mouth
bit the calf's leg. The Calf of course was shocked.

"Ouch ... What is it, Mr. Crocodile? Why did you bite me? You broke Mr. Crocodile's
promise! I'm sorry I helped you." The Calf is angry.

"Shut up stupid calf. I haven't eaten in three days. Please ask other animals, they will
definitely do the same thing if they are in my position." Mr.Crocodile doesn't care.

It so happened that at that time a rotten mat was washed away in the river. The Calf
asks his opinion after telling the mat what happened to him. But mat actually defends
Mr.Crocodile.

"It's your fate, O Calf, so accept it. When I was in a new condition, it was always used
by humans. But now look at me being dumped in the river just like that." said the
Weathered Mat.

It didn't take long for an old basket to drift away in the river. The Calf asks the same
question in the old basket but the answer to the old basket is the same as the answer to
the rotten mat.
Then an old duck appeared. After the Calf told the old duck about his problem, the
duck again defended the crocodile. The old duck said he ran away because his
employer wanted to slaughter him.

After the old duck left, the mouse deer appeared. The Calf tells the problem to the
hare. Mr.Crocodile is calm because he is sure that the hare must defend him. The hare
said he had to know the truth. He asked Mr.Crocodile & Calf to repeat the incident
from the beginning. Mr.Crocodile and Calf agree. Mr.Crocodile releases his bite on
the leg of the Calf. Then the Calf pushed back the tree trunk to Mr.Crocodile's body.

"Oh so that's how it started." said the hare.

"Yes, right mouse deer." said Mr. Crocodile.

"Now it is your turn, Calf! Let go of this tree trunk." said Mr. Crocodile to the Calf.

Hearing that, the hare immediately whispered the calf to quickly escape. The Calf is
very happy to know that this is just the trick of the mouse deer to help him escape
from Mr.Crocodile. The two of them immediately ran fast leaving Mr.Crocodile who
could not move and was crushed by a tree. Knowing this, Mr.Crocodile was very
angry.

"Hi Calf! Hi Mouse Deer! Where are you going? You insolent Mouse Deer turns out
to be your trick." Mr.Crocodile is very angry.

"Feel the consequences, Mr. Crocodile! You can't be trusted. Already helped but
instead want to eat the Calf. Goodbye Mr. Crocodile." shouted the hare.

Mereka
memiliki seekor anak sapi yang tengah beranjak dewasa. Anak sapi memiliki rasa
ingin tahu sangat besar. Suatu ketika anak sapi melihat sebuah sungai. Ia meminta izin
ibunya untuk berjalan-jalan.
"Ibu, aku mau berjalan-jalan di sekitar sungai. Boleh kan bu?" tanya Anak Sapi.
"Boleh anakku, tapi kau harus berhati-hati. Banyak buaya di sungai. Kau jangan
mudah percaya buaya nak." ibunya menasehati.

Anak Sapi menolak menolong Pak Buaya.

"Jika engkau tak menolongku sekarang aku pasti akan mati, jadi aku berjanji tak akan
memakanmu Anak Sapi." Pak Buaya memelas.

"Baiklah kalau begitu aku akan menolongmu." kata Anak Sapi.

Anak Sapi kemudian dengan susah payah mendorong batang pohon besar.

Pak Buaya akhirnya terlepas dari himpitan pohon.

Setelah terlepas, tiba-tiba saja mulut Pak Buaya menggigit kaki Anak Sapi.

Anak Sapi tentu saja kaget.

"Aduh...Apa-apaan Pak Buaya? Kenapa menggigitku? Kau ingkar janji Pak Buaya!
Aku menyesal telah menolongmu." Anak Sapi marah.

"Diamlah Anak Sapi bodoh. Aku sudah tiga hari tidak makan. Silahkan kau tanya

menimpanya.

Tapi tikar justru membela Pak Buaya.

"Itu sudah nasibmu hai Anak Sapi jadi terimalah. Waktu aku masih dalam kondisi
baru, selalu dipakai oleh manusia. Tapi sekarang lihatlah aku dibuang di sungai begitu
saja." kata Tikar Lapuk.

Kemudian muncul seekor bebek tua. Setelah Anak Sapi menceritakan masalahnya
pada bebek tua, lagi-lagi si bebek justru membela buaya. Bebek tua mengatakan ia
melarikan diri karena hendak disembelih oleh majikannya.

Setelah bebek tua pergi, munculah Si Kancil. Anak Sapi menceritakan masalahnya
pada Si Kancil. Pak Buaya tenang-tenang saja karena yakin Si Kancil pasti
membelanya. Si Kancil mengatakan ia harus tahu kejadian sebenarnya. Ia meminta
Pak Buaya & Anak Sapi agar mengulang kembali kejadiannya dari awal.

Pak Buaya dan Anak Sapi setuju.

Pak Buaya melepaskan gigitannya pada kaki Anak Sapi.

Kemudian Anak Sapi mendorong kembali batang pohon ke tubuh Pak Buaya.

"Oh jadi begitu kejadian awalnya." kata Si Kancil.

"Iya betul Kancil." kata Pak Buaya.

"Sekarang giliranmu hai Anak Sapi! Lepaskan batang pohon ini." kata Pak Buaya
pada Anak Sapi.

Mendengar itu Si Kancil segera membisiki Anak Sapi agar cepat melarikan diri.
Anak Sapi sangat senang mengetahui bahwa ini hanyalah akal Si Kancil untuk
membantunya melarikan diri dari Pak Buaya.

Mereka berdua segera berlari kencang meninggalkan Pak Buaya yang tidak bisa
bergerak terhimpit pohon.

Mengetahui hal tersebut Pak Buaya sangat marah.

"Hai Anak Sapi! Hai Kancil! Mau kemana kalian? Kurang ajar kau Kancil ternyata ini
tipu muslihatmu." Pak Buaya sangat marah.

"Rasakan akibatnya Pak Buaya! Kau tak bisa dipercaya. Sudah dibantu tapi malah
mau memakan Anak Sapi. Selamat tinggal Pak Buaya." teriak Si Kancil.
