METHODS OF PREVENTION

1. Use of barrier methods during sex. A condom provides a type of barrier method to prevent
transmission of HIV and STIS. Latex condoms for people with penises provide a barrier between
sexual partners to avoid sharing bodily fluids .when one uses condom, applying lube over it may
reduce the chance that the condom breaks or falls off. The lube should be water or silicon based.
One should ensure you wear the condom correctly to reduce malfunctions.
2. Choose your sexual partner correctly and wisely. In some cases your chances of contracting or
transmitting HIV may increase with the number of sexual partners you have. Monogamous
relationship may be safe pairings if you are sexually active ,meaning you and your partner will
only have sex with each other
3. Consider intimate activities that don’t involve the exchange of bodily fluids.
4. Test yourself regularly for HIV and other STIs to avoid too many risks.
5. Avoid miss using drugs and alcohol since these can impair your decision making.
6. Take medications that can protect you from HIV e.g. pre exposing prophylaxis (PrEP) is a
medication you take daily by mouth to lower your chances of contracting HIV.
7. Use sterilized needles. The needles should be new, sanitized with bleach and from sources like
pharmacy. Avoid needle sharing, since one can predict someone’s health.
