Learning Task 1:

“I have one billion pesos”

Do you know how old the universe is? What about the Solar System?

The universe is approximately 13.8 billion years old while the Solar System is at least 4.6
billion years old. But, how large exactly is a billion? Let’s say you have one billion pesos, try
to answer these questions:

a. What will you buy given that you won one billion pesos in the lottery?

If I won one billion pesos in the lottery, I will invest half of it on lands and
properties. Then I will build companies so that people will have more jobs
and also I'll be able to grow my money. I’ll also donate some of it to
charities and give back every time so they’ll feel loved. I would really like to
use this opportunity not just to grow my money but for other people to
benefit from it especially those who really deserve it and work hard for it.

b. How long do you think you can spend one billion pesos if you spend one peso per
second? [Hint: 1 billion / (60 s/min * 60 min/hour * 24 hour/day * 365 day/year)]

If I could spend one peso per second with this big amount of money, it will
take years until it is finished. I could spend one billion pesos for more than
31 years. I will be spending a peso for every second in 31 years, 259 days, 1
hour, 46 minutes, and 40 seconds
