Mechanics of Machines 3 - Practical Assignment

The aim of this practical assignment is to examine the kinematics present in linkage
mechanisms.

Two techniques are utilised in this investigation. Graphical and Simulation. The
graphical technique is used to analysis a mechanism at a single orientation and
instance in time. The simulated model however gives results for the full range of motion
of the mechanism. Comparing the graphical solution to a simulation result allows one to
confirm the validity of the model as an accurate representation of the linkage under
investigation.

Several mechanisms are to be analysed in this investigation. Each analysis to be

performed using the two techniques and the results are to be compared and discussed.

This practical assignment will form the assessment of the ECSA GA 2 – Application of
scientific and engineering knowledge. The report will also count 25 percent of the
course mark. Results are to be presented in a clear and concise manner and follow the
supplied report template.
