PEANUT MARKETING NEWS – June 9, 2021 – Tyron Spearman, Editor (67)

RAINS HIT PEANUT BELT – Farmers are breathing a sigh of relief as the hot, dry weather in the Southeast and Virginia-Carolina
moved East allowing more humidity from the Gulf of Mexico and scattered showers across the entire area. During the last two days,
farmers have received from two to four inches in most Southeast states. The pattern of more afternoon showers is predicted the next
week, however high temperatures are returning. With the high humidity, the temperatures will seem even higher. Farmers will wait
for the land to dry-off and return the planters to the field to finish planting peanuts and cotton. Some areas did not receive rain.

PEANUT CROP INSURANCE – Some farmers have inquired about peanuts that cannot be planted or replant rules and regs.
• Prevented Planting - Prevented planting coverage is 55 percent of your production guarantee for timely planted acreage.
For an additional premium, you may increase your prevented planting coverage.
• Replant Provisions - You may receive a replanting payment if your peanuts are damaged by an insurable cause of loss so the
remaining stand will not produce at least 90 percent of the production guarantee and it is practical to replant. The
replanting payment per acre is $95 multiplied by your share. Replanting payments are not available for CAT coverage.

FINAL PLANTING DAY FOR CROP INSURANCE - The ‘final Planting Date’, is the last date a peanut producer may plant and the
acreage be eligible for full crop insurance coverage (receive the 100% of Production Guarantee or Revenue Guarantee). The
farmer is NOT required to plant after the date but may do so at reduced coverage of 1% per day through the late planting
period.
In Georgia, most counties have a final planting date of June 5. The End of the Late Planting Period is June 15. The final planting
date was May 31 for the Northern Counties.of Jefferson, Johnson, Laurens, Montgomery, Richmond, Treutlen, Washington and
Wilkinson. Their End of Late Plant Period is June 10. The End of the Late Plant Period in Florida is June 15. Alabama has a
Northern zone (June10) and a southern zone (June 15) as the End of the Late Plant Period.
The planting deadline in other states includes Texas on June 10, Oklahoma - June 15 for Spanish and June 5 for runners,
Georgia, Alabama, Florida and most of South Carolina is June 15 with Virginia and North Carolina planting deadline is June 10.
Some states have sections with different deadlines for different varieties.
Farmers can still plant peanuts after the late planting date, but the guarantee drops to 50 percent for peanuts and cotton.
If the farmer is unable to plant by the final planting date, the farmer may file for "prevented planting" and must do so within
72 hours after the Final Planting Date. Check with crop insurance agent for full details.
