The attorney general for Mississippi, Lynn Fitch, is bringing a court case against drug

manufacturers and pharmacy benefit managers for working together to rise the cost of insulin.

Attorney General Finch is a mother of a diabetic and knows the emotional and fiscal stress high

drug prices have on families. Mississippi has the highest population of dabetic, 13.6% of

residents have the illness. Over the past few decades, the price of insulin has risen over 1000%.

In 2016, the average cost a diabetic spent on insulin was $5,705. Attorney General Finch

believes the reason people are struggling to pay for insulin is because of the backroom deals

the PBMs and drug manufacturers are making. The deals make it so different insulin companies

will raise the prices simultaneously. She alleges that Mississpians have been overcharged

millions, and she seeks to hold the defendants accountable to protect diabetics and Mississppi’s

economic interests.
