Cultural relativism and ethnocentrism are two opposites of the same coin.

These two rather philosophical

concepts are intertwined. As a concept, ethnocentrism appeared in cultural relativism earlier than
countries, and cultural relativism was designed to counter ethnocentrism.
This is the positive and negative cultural ethnocentrism relativism and xenocentrism
Positive of ethnocentrism
It encourages social unity in groups and society, thereby increasing the power of cooperation.
It provides protection for group members by establishing a sense of belonging among group members, so
that those who are weak, poor, hopeless, and helpless members are encouraged by working with group
members. This means that it provides compensation for people in low status.
It promotes nationalism and patriotism among members of society. Because it inspires the spirit of
belonging to society. A culture that claims to be superior to others.

Negative of ethnocentrism
It establishes strict boundaries between various social groups. Inter-ethnic relations are hindered by
prejudice against one another. The process of social relations between various groups has slowed down.

The prejudice it creates create conflict and tension among many groups. The cooperative social forces
face problems in their operations.

It limits the individuals in the small social group to which the individual belongs. He is still within the
limits of this group, unaffected by general social changes that occur in the surrounding society. In this
way, he stayed behind in a sense and hardly made any changes. Sometimes, even if he advocates against
modern social change, it also means that it hinders cultural change among people.
