Writing Exercise Intan (21/9/2020)

Language is needed for any kind of communication. The differences of language are always a major
obstacle and cause people to have difficulty translating meanings which lead to miscommunication
and misunderstanding. Communication becomes difficult in situations where people don't
understand each others' language. That’s why, the main advantage of having only one language
spoken in the world is the loss of major barriers to communication.

In addition, with a mono-language, human life becomes easier because the brain does not have to
work hard, or requires translation services to be able to find out what other people are saying to us.
So that there is no more three-language decoding process like when Indonesians watch Korean
dramas, with English subtitles.

But on the other hand, language is also closely related to human civilization. the use of multiple
languages indicates that a nation has a diverse culture. Language is not only used to communicate,
but has a higher role such as showing the values, customs and culture of a nation. If indeed English
later becoming the only language to be spoken globally, the cultural civilizations that have been built
by humans in various countries will be extinct. the world will become uniform and colorless. It would
be very strange if that happened in various tourist destinations. Even though it was the differences
that made everything look interesting. We also need differences to keep learning, mutual respect
and complementary.

In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with using everyday English but it must be adjusted to the
context because after all preserving local languages is also important as an effort to preserve
sustainable culture.
