Sonnet 130

This poet’s words wound a bit much,

For to mock a lady this way is unjustly.

If the plan is to beguile a woman with such,

Well, good Lord, he failed miserably!

For a lady is to be seen like a rose in bloom,

Like a star in the night whose light you seek.

She is meant to be praised; her flaws entombed,

To be told not of how her breath reek!

Though I daresay, it’s divine to be called

A goddess that treads this mundane ground.

But the words he used might get her sold,

To another man who’s sweeter, she found.

So change thy words, poet, or all women shall fear,

A writer and lover named Shakespeare.
