The following is a telephone exchange between a hotel guest and room service at a
hotel in Asia, which was recorded and published in the Far East Economic Review.

Room Service (RS) : “Morny. Ruin sorbees.”
G : “What?”
G : “What?”
G : “I feel really bad about this, but I don’t know what ‘judo one toes’ means.”
RS : “Toes! Toes! Why djew Don Juan toes? Ow bow singlish mopping we
bother?”
G : “English muffin!! I’ve got it! You were saying ‘Toast.’ Fine.
RS : “We bother?”
RS : “Wad?”
RS : “Copy?”
G : “Sorry?”
RS : “One Minnie. Ass ruin torino fee, strangle ache, crease baychem, tossy
RS : “Tenjewberrymud.”
G : “You’re welcome.”

The order of what the guest order is what I find the hardest.

translation?
I think the translation of “Tenjewberrymud” is “Thank You Very Much.”
8. If you were the guest, how would you have reacted to the room service?
Same as him, a bit confused but I will treat him/her with respect.
9. What do you think is the nationality of the room service? Why do you think so?
I hate to be a stereotype person, but I think the nationality or race of the room service is
from Asia, to be more specific Chinese.
10. What does this conversation tell us about reading as communication skill?
That we really need to understand each other, we need respect and understanding
because not all people know English and when someone has a very strong accent it
means that he/she can speak other language fluently.
