Clase 06

All we have to do is FOCUS

We need to FOCUS!

As we have mentioned in our previous class, there are two fundamental concepts for
the system of Tonicity:

1. CONTEXT
2. FOCUS

Let's see if we remember how they are related...

Again, we'll test language being used in context, but this time in a real situation. Let's
first relax and watch the video below...

I hope you enjoyed watching the video and learning a little bit more
about the cultural background of the language you'll be teaching.

How are we going to work with this?

We'll work with the transcript from this video. Some parts of the
transcript have been highlighted. We'll pay attention only to those.
1. We'll extract those sections (no need to transcribe).
2. According to the video, we'll identify tone group division and
tonic syllables.
3. We'll identify the cases of tonicity (neutral or marked), and in
the marked cases, we'll indicate the reason why the tonic
syllable is not on the LLI.
4. Finally, we'll practise reading a section of the text (the one you
prefer) for our next Meet session. We'll read it there.

It should be fun to work with this language sample because it's

authentic language for learning purposes.
