Guidelines to BE Level students for writing up Research Proposal

The following contents are to be included in the proposal

1. Title of the Project


2. Introduction
2.1 Background (This section should contain, among others, but not limited to:
2.1.1 The origin of ideas (i.e. Why this study?)
2.1.2 Attempts so far made by others to address the issues
2.1.3 Issues left
2.1.4 Scope of the work (areas to be covered)
2.1.5 Rationale (justification) in brief
2.2 Problem statement (This section should specifically highlight the problem
to be dealt with)
2.3 Literature review (In this section, the scholar should review and analyse
the approaches already made in addressing the issue and give their
results)
2.4 Justification (Rationals of research) – In this section the scholar should
mention the potential benefits of the study
2.5 Hypothesis (This section should highlight the scholar’s theoretical
concept/approach in addressing the issue)
2.6 Research objective (This section should contain a) main objective of the
study possibly in one sentence and b) specific objectives (several) to meet
the main objective)
3. Research methodology
3.1. Research methods
3.2. Research tools (Literature survey, physical model, mathematical model,
experiments, simulation, case study, questionnaire and etc.)
3.3. Assumptions and limitations
4. Expected outcomes (This section shall contain the results expected at the end of
the study)
5. Budget structure (This section should contain the estimated cost for the proposed
research)
6. Working schedule (This section should contain the work schedule of the study in
form of a bar-chart)
7. Reference (This section should list all references cited in the texts of the
proposal)
