What is Internet ?

The internet is the global system of interconnected computer networks that uses
the internet protocol suite ( TCP/IP ) to communicate between networks and
devices.
It connects computer systems across the world.

Search Engine

What is search engine ?

A search engine is a software that searches a database of information

according to the user’s inquiry.
The search engine provides a list of results that best match what the user
is trying to find.
Components of a search engine

There are three main components of a search engine :-

1. Web crawler
It is also known as spider or bots. It is a software component that
back up the web to gather information.
2. Database
All the information on the web is stored in datebase. It consists of
huge web resources.
3. Search interfaces
This component is an interface between user and the database. It
helps the user to search through the database.

Types of Search Engine

1. Crawler based Search Egine

All crawler based Search Engines use a crawler or not or spider for
crawling and indexing ( a process of identifying the words and expressions
that best describe the page ) new content to the search database.
For Example :-
* Google
* Yahoo!
* Baidu

2. Human powered directories

Also referred as open directory system. It depends upon human
based activities for listing.
3. Hybrid Search Engine
It use both crawler based and manual indexing for listing
the sites in search result.
For Example :-
All the crawler based Search Engines are hybrid Search
Engine i.e. Google, Yahoo! Etc.
Web browser

It is a software application for accessing information on the world

wide web ( abbreviated as : www ).
It is used to access and view websites.

For Example :-
• Google Chrome
• Internet Explorer
• Apple Safari
• Mozilla Firefox
