Guidelines for writing the summary page

All Master’s theses must have a summary page added to the thesis after the title page.
The idea of the summary is to allow people interested in the topic to see if the contents
include information relevant to them. You also must submit a separate copy of the
summary page to the faculty office.

The upper part of the summary (approximately 6 cm from the top) must show the
following bibliographical information (see above):
 University, school and Faculty
 Surname and first name of the writer in CAPITAL LETTERS
 Title of the work
 Character of the thesis. Number of pages and of the appendixes
 Subject in which the work was written at (LLEES)
 Month and year when the work was finished

After the bibliographical information you write the actual summary. When writing the
summary you must assume the reader has basic knowledge of the topic. The summary
has to be understood without having to read the whole thesis. The summary must be
written in full sentences, not as a list of subtitles. You should always use established
concepts. You should not include any references or quotes in the summary nor any
information or claims that are not included in the research. The summary must be an
independent whole. The length of the summary should be approximately 120-250
words and should easily fit onto the summary page (line spacing 1, margins: left 4cm,
right 2cm, top 2,5cm, bottom minimum 1,5cm).

The summary should include e.g. the following:

 The topic of the thesis
 The aim, area and purpose of the research
 The methods used
 Main results of the research
 The conclusions and suggested measures that should be taken according to the
results
 Keywords

You must add a short list of keywords that describe the contents of the thesis
