I Didn’t Mean to Kill My Brother… In My Dream

Your mind is you and you become your mind. If your mind is closed, you are closed. This

is the lesson I learned this year. Before this year, I never considered myself a closed-minded

person … but that was until I realized that I was always set in my ways. I would think about an

idea for .02 of a second, choose a side and stick to it without wanting to hear the other side. An

open-minded person is willing to change their perspective when presented with new ideas and

facts. Instead, I decided to sequester myself from a whole other part of the world and perspective

-- a part that at first just seemed silly and insignificant to me. But, that was until I decided to

listen to my brother -- for once -- and until I watched The Secret. This year I became a more

open-minded person through my brother, Yaw, and the documentary, The Secret.

Yaw has taught me many lessons. He has talked to me about the following: taxes, social

issues, the science of the body, and so much more. The best thing he has ever taught me was to

keep an open mind. Before the election in November, I was thinking to myself about how

divided -- in a million different ways -- the US was. I was asking myself, “Why? Why is this

happening? Why are there always two extremes?” (Democrat/republican or unnecessarily

rich/poor) And, fortunately, I was thinking more out loud than in my head, so Yaw overheard

me. He then started to explain how the system worked and that it was mostly because of money.

He told me that money controlled everything -- from the justice system to whether or not your

trash gets collected every week. So I said, “Why can’t wealthy people help fix it?” He told me

that everything stays the same since the wealthy like it this way. And I said, “Well, that’s not

fair. Why can’t they see the people at the bottom who are struggling?”
Yaw: “ They don’t since they don’t want to look at the world from someone else’s

perspective. Everything is good for them, so why would they want anything to change?”

Me: “I don’t understand how they can live like that, knowing people are going without. I

wouldn’t do that.”

Yaw: “Well, money changes you and most rich people are so closed-minded they don’t

see why they have to pay high taxes. The money is to help other people, but they don’t want to

do that. And, a good portion of the top 1% are conservatives and republicans. Money is the

reason why we are so divided. Democrats are more for the team and republicans are more for the

player. But, keep in mind that, that doesn’t automatically mean that republicans are bad and

Democrats are good.” In the end, he told me to keep an open mind; he told me to keep one for as

long as I could. Because, as you get older your mind closes and closes until it’s shut or you die,

and that’s what got us here today. Because people didn’t want to see the world from someone

else’s point of view, and because people didn’t want to take on new ideas, the world is the way it

is. He has impacted me greatly since the lessons -- like this -- that he has taught me are lessons

that I can take with me every day.

The Secret is … manifestation. But, even though you now know the secret, the secret is up

to you. It’s your choice whether or not you want to take advantage of the powerful things your

mind can do. And first, you have to have an open mind, since “your thoughts become things.”

According to the documentary, The Secret, a vital part in manifesting what you want is believing

that it will come to you. If your mind is closed and you believe your manifestation won’t come

true, then the universe will grant that wish. Having an open mind will help you manifest quicker

and easier because “your thoughts are the primary cause of everything.” Before I watched The

Secret, I thought that manifestation was a joke. Especially since I actually learned The Secret
back in middle school ... and it didn’t work for me. Back then, I thought that if I wanted

something, it would pop up out of thin air! And, when that didn’t happen, I closed my mind and

I started to believe that manifestation was a lie. Thankfully, when I watched The Secret this year,

I realized that I was doing it wrong, and that I didn't open my mind enough to fully believe in

what the universe could do. All I had to do was “ask once, believe you have received, and all

you have to do to receive is feel good.” This lesson has impacted me so much! Especially since

this documentary came to me when my mental health was at its lowest, it felt like there was no

hope in the world and that I would always be in bad situations. However, ever since I learned

about manifestation, I now see that there’s another side to everything, and that I have the power

to pull myself out of it. The Secret opened my eyes to a whole universe of possibilities that I

never thought was possible. And to “see the things that you want as already yours” But

especially, The Secret allowed me to see that I -- or anyone -- can die with memories instead of

dreams.

I learned that having an open mind is the key to everything: from social issues to having a

million dollars in your pocket. Being open-minded will allow you to see more than the great

majority of the world can see. And, if you have an open mind, you can change your mind --

which means that you can change anything.
