Banking Industry Rankings 2020

Banking Industy in the Philippines comprises of Universal and Commercial Bank Group,

Thrift Bank Group, and Rural and Cooperative Group as listed in the statistics report of Bangko

Sentral ng Pilipinas with their published annual financial statements. All the bank groups’ data

relied on the accounting period as of December 31, 2020.

Among the listed report, there are 46 registered universal and commercial banks, under

thrift bank there are a total of 48 listed banks and over a sum of 100 registered bank under rural

and cooperative group.

Figures below will visually represent the rankings of Universal and Commercial Bank

Group in terms of their total: assets; stockholder’s equity; deposit liabilities; and return on equity.

The standings of Thrift Bank Group will also be presented in terms of their total: assets; capital;

deposit liabilities; loans and receivables, net and return on equity. Lastly, the rankings of Rural

and Cooperative Group in terms of their total: assets; capital; deposit liabilities; and loans and

receivables.

Universal and Commercial Bank Group

Amongst the 46 registered under Universal and Commercial Bank Group, BDO Unibank

Inc. places on top with regards to the total assets, stockholder’s equity and deposit liabilities.

Meanwhile, United Coconut planters bank has the highest return on equity.

The figures below will be in the amount of pesos for the total of assets, stockholder’s

equity, deposit liabilities, and percentage basis n return on equity.


The total assets of the 46 registered banks under this group sums up to 18-billion in

Philippine currency. The five banks that owned the highest totaled assets comprises of BDO

Unibank Inc. owning a total of 17.9% of the total registered banks succeeded by, 13% owned by

Land Bank of the Philippines, 12% owned by Metropolitan Bank and TCO, and 10.79% owned

by Philippine National Bank.

billion pesos. The five banks that owned the highest totaled stockholder’s equity comprises of

BDO Unibank Inc. owning a total of 18.16% of the general registered banks in this group

followed by, 14.46% owned by Metropolitan Bank & TCO, 12.86% owned by Bank of the

Philippine Islands, 7.79% owned by Land Bank of the Philippines, and 6.97% owned by

Philippine National Bank.

The total deposit liabilities of the 46 registered banks under this group sums up to 13-

billion pesos. Five banks that owned the highest deposit liabilities comprises of BDO Unibank

Inc. having a total of 18.44% of the total listed banks succeeded by, Land Bank of the

Philippines with a total of 15.15%, followed by 11.45% owned by Metropolitan Bank & TCO,

10.64% from Bank of the Philippine Islands., and 6.47% from Phil National Bank.

Amongst the 48 registered under Thrift Bank Group, BPI Family Savings Bank Inc.

places on top with regards to the total assets, loans and receivables and deposit liabilities. On

the other hand, Phil Savings Bank tops on the total owned capital. Inter-Asia Development Bank

has the highest from its Return on Equity (ROE).

The total assets of the 48 registered banks under this group sums up to 1.1-billion

pesos. The five banks that owned the highest totaled assets comprises of BPI Family Savings

Bank Inc. owning a total of 25.35% of the total listed banks followed by, 19.38% owned by Phil

pesos. The five banks that owned the highest capital comprises of Phil Savings Bank. owning a

total of 20.63% of the general registered banks in this group followed by, 19.92% owned by BPI

owned the highest deposit liabilities comprises of Inter-Asia Development Bank having a total of

14.8% of the total listed banks succeeded by, Bank of Makati (A Savings Bank) Inc having

14.34% ROE, followed by 13.83% owned by 1st Valley Bank Inc A Development Bank, 13.82%

from Producers Savings Bank Corporation, and 12.44% from Pacific Ace Savings Bank.
