Construction & Operation

A galvanic element is created (≤ 1 Volt),
when the ISB Scale-Buster® comes into
contact with an electrolyte (water). In this
process, the less noble metal (the anode) sacrifices and
serves as a breaking point in the pipeline system. Corro-
sion will therefore take place at the anode and not inside
the pipes or any other installations.

The prevention of lime scale deposits is based on the

effect of the dissolved zinc ions on the crystallization be-
havior of the hardness builders. Zinc ions, as crystallizati-
on centers, attract the large ion conglomerations cen-
ters. Due to the galvanic treatment, large particles have a
lower attachment tendency and minimize the problems

Corrosion Lime Scale Deposit

The reason for the ever increasing huge global demand
for iron and copper is not just the reconstruction of new
production plants but also the constant necessary repla-
cement of corroded construction parts.
Corrosion is the chemical reaction of a metallic material
with water contents. In this process, metal dissolves and
creates hollows and holes.
In addition to corrosion problems, high levels of calcium
and magnesium ions (the causesof water hardness) can
lead to lime scale in pipes. A major cause of lime scale
can be a rise in temperature within the system. Other
causes can be the change in ph values, carbonic acid
levels or pressure levels.

A recurring problems is corroded, rusty pipes. The material of the pipe system
consists of galvanized steel pipes. After 30-40 years in use the inner surface of
the pipe becomes worn-out.

Beginning of 1990, the company tried to solve the problems of their pipe system
by testing different methods of physical water treatment. For example, permanent
magnet system, but without any success. Chemical dosing was ejected by the
lessee.

Successful test period

In 1997, the technical department got in contact with the ISB system. The ISB Scale-Buster® was installed in the main
pipe of a big building. A few months after installation, there were significant improvements. The Lessee reports of more
pressure inside the pipe system and less rust water.

Alternative to total renovation

For Immeo Wohnen the ISB Scale-Buster® was an alternative to total renovation in areas with lime scale deposits.
Compared with the expensive, complex and inconvenient total renovation, the installation of ISB Scale-Buster® is a
simple and reasonably priced alternative to maintain the pipe system. Additional savings are fewer deposits on fittings
and valves with the effect of longer replacement periods.

800 flats are protected

After the positive test results, Immeo Wohnen was determined to install the ISB
Scale-Buster® system in larger quantities. So far, more than 800 flats were
installed with the ISB Scale-Buster® system.
