Introduction ‘A campus network is a very important part of campus life. A network that is a patchwork of devices strung together, using a mixture of technologies and protocols. A computer network, often simply referred to as a network, is a collection of computers and devices connected by communications channels that facilitates communications among users and allows users to share resources with other users. Networks may be classified according to a wide variety of characteristics. A computer network allows sharing of resources and information among devices connected to the network Within a limited geographical area, LANs are interconnected with help of Switches and Routers and connects buildings to buildings of a single campus where all networking resources like wiring, hubs, switches, routers etc. are owned by organization itself. In this, they use same kind of technologies like Local ‘Area Network only interconnection between different buildings is there. Buildings/ Department in a campus network are interconnected by means of Optical fiber media, i.e., Fiber optics and takes advantage of 10- Gigabit Ethernet technology. Besides this 10-Gigabit Ethemet technology, Wi-Fi hotspots and hot zones are different ways of accessing network. Ll. Benefits of CAN + Speed : Communication within a CAN takes place over Local Area Network (LAN) so data transfer rate between systems is little bit fast than Internet. + Security: Security has been a essential issue within the style in readying of an enterprise network. A campus network is a very important part of campus life and network security is crucial for a campus network. Secured network protects an establishment from security attacks related to network. A university network includes a range of uses like teaching, learning, research, management, e-library, result publication, Network security can stop the university network from differing kinds of threats and attacks, Network administrators of campus take care of network by continuous monitoring, tracking and limiting access. To protect network from unauthorized access firewall is placed between network and internet. + Cost-effective: With a little effort and maintenance, network works well by providing fast data transfer rate with multi-departmental network access. It can be enabled wirelessly, where wiring and cabling costs can be managed. So to work with in a campus using CAN is cost-effective in view of performance. Finally, we can say Campus Area Network is a cost-effective and easy to implement within a specific geographical area or certain kilometers of locality. And it is very helpful to campuses like colleges, universities, corporate organizations, etc. A University where networks interconnect academic building, admission building, library, account section, examination section, and placement section etc. of an institution when connected with each other combine to form Campus Area Network (CAN). Its network also includes a range of uses like teaching, learning, research, management, e-library, result publication. ————{ s } — Computer networks can be used for several purposes: + Facilitating Communications © Sharing Hardware, files, data, information and software ete. Objectives + To study how implement a functional networking. + To provide centralized support and troubleshooting in internetwork. + To provide security within intemetwork to function smoothly and secure form the perspective of protecting the private network from viruses and outside attacks, In this project we study along with practical of the following 1. The responsibility of network engineering 2. The planning of a network in new the building\Department. 3. Configure the network devices (Switches, Router ete.) 4. Management of Bandwidth, throughput of Network Devices, Prioritizing Traffic, Threa 5. Ways to Manage Your Campus Network Efficiently 6. Simplifying the Network Infrastructure. 3. Architecture of Network ‘The term architecture can refer to either hardware or software, or to a combination of hardware and software. © Cabling Pattern:~ Structured Cabling done in all network. + Topology: Hybrid Topology used. * Computer end Device: A Network Interface Device on each computer (this is called a Network Interface Card or NIC) installed in each Computer to connect the UTP wire through Rj-45 Connector. * Network end point Device:- L2 Network Switches is used as end point device to broadcast and switch the data from one point to another. Hubs are little used to extend the point. * Network Management Software:- Cisco prime infrastructure & D-View used to monitor the network & help in troubleshooting, * Protocol :- Internet Protocol Version 4 is used for accessing the internet and other Hypertext Transfer Protocol etc * Serve:- Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol, Domain Name Server, Transfer Protocol Server. © Wi-Fi communication: ‘The Wi-Fi devices are used for Wi-Fi communication. The difference between a topology and an architecture is, topology concerned with the physical arrangement of the network components. In contrast, an architecture addresses the components themselves and how a system is structured (cable laid methods, topology, etc.) 4, Components Used in Network Following Components are used. * Passive Component RJ-45 connector, UTP indoor & outdoor cable, Optical Fiber cable Single mode & Multimode, Patch panel, Information outlet, Rack gee i ae” ep A close up of RI-45 connector Patch Panel * Active Component Unified Threat Management: - Fortinet L3 Switches: - Cisco, D-link, and Huawei L2 Switches: - Cisco, D-link, Huawei, Netgear Fiber Module: - Cisco, D-link, Huawei Wireless Device: - Fortinet, D-link Computer end Point Device:- Network Interface Card «Network Management Software:- Cisco Prime Infrastructure, D-view. PCI Network Interface Cards (NICs) 5. Scope & Applications 5. ope * Growing Opportunities Every sector requires networking in some or the other way. In the business sector, networking is applicable from manufacturing to business processing. As organizations and institutions invest in domains like technology, cloud computing, big data, ete. they all depend on a workforce with networking skills to make the most of this technology. Today the supply of networking workforce does not match with the demand, due to which in the future these professionals will discover opportunities for the growing economy. * Automation — Technology is undergoing continuous automation. Automation plays an important role during cost reduction, productivity, performance. Automation is becoming the base of networking. Automating the configuration, deployment, maintenance, and troubleshooting has now become a part of automation, Everyday network tasks like these grow the scope of networking. There is a myth that automation might take away jobs in the near future which is not true. It will simply add skill sets to the work profile of a network engineer. «Innovation - Companies expand with the help of innovation. Due to this Innovation is no more an option for companies but an opportunity to grow. The change could be extemal for a better provision of products and services to the clients or internal for the better performance of the internal networks. If you are an innovator, you have a huge opportunity to take up your career to another level. + Job Opportunities - The networking domain is huge with sub-domains like routing and switching, security, service provider, collaboration, etc. Let’s consider some examples. Routing and Switching is the pillar of networking. The professionals working in this domain handle the basics of networking. Every company will require routing and switching professionals to handle their networks. Same is applicable in the security domain. Every network set up in companies will need security to protect their sensitive data, Hence the job opportunities in this domain multiply day by day. + You will go places all over the world —Networking carries an international standard. It means that the world recognizes your knowledge and skills in networking. Especially, a Cisco certified professional may travel to global corporations around the globe. Networking professionals work in a ; { = } lot of domains. They support small businesses, schools, industries and every place where networking is applicable. 52, Applications in University Students, faculty, and staff use the network for the following purposes: CC Application 1, Homework: Students use the network to write papers and other documents. They save their work to file servers in the Computing Centre and print their work on printers in the Computing Centre and other buildings CC Application 2, Email: Students, faculty, and administrative staff make extensive use of email. CApplication 3, Web Research: Students, faculty, and administrative staff use Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Microsoft Internet Explorer etc. to access information, participate in chat rooms, play games, and use other typical web services.
