systems. Present study was intended with the aim to dacument the traditional uses of herptle and fish species
among the local communities in the vicinity of the River Chenab, Punjab Pakistan
Method: Data collected by semistructured interviews and questionnaires were subsequently analyzed using
relative frequency of citation (FO, fidelity level (FL), relative popularty level (RPL), sirilary index (5), and rank order
priority (ROP) indies,
Results: Out of total 81 reported spetiesethnometicnal uses of eight hexptles vi. Aspideretes gangeticus, A
hhurum, Eublepharis maculaus, Voranus bengalenss, than molurus, Ene john, Pras mucosus mucosus, Daboia
usseli ssl and five fish species including Hypophtnalmichitys molt, Cphinus reba, Labeo devo, Mastacembelus
armatus, and Pethia tcto were reported forthe fist ime flom this region. Fat, flesh, bin, and skin were among the
commonly utlized body parts to treat allergy, cardiovascular, nenous and respiratory disorders, sexual impotency,
skin infections, and as antidote and anti-diabetic agents. Hoplebaachusrigrinus, Dutophyynus stomaticus, and
Pryos mucosus mucosus (herpes), as well 35 Labeo rohita, Wotlago attu, and Cinhinus reba (ish) were top ranked
with maximum informant repons, Frequency of citations and rank order priority, Uromasy hardwici
‘Ctenopharyngodon della, H. molitrx, Cinmhinus mrigaio, C. reba, L. rohita, L. calbasu, L. dero, and Pethia ticto were the
species with 100% fidelity level. Furthermore, medicinal uses of Aspideetes gangeticus, Aspderetes hurum, Caotes
versicolor, Daboia wusseli russell, Hypaphihalmichthys mols, Civhinus reba, Labeo dera, Mastacembelus armotus,
Pethia tcto, end Gagata cenia were reported forthe fist ime.
Conclusion: About half ofthe reported species depicted zero similaity index with previously reported literature,
which indicates strong associations of locl inhabitants with animal species, particularly for therapeutic purpose.
Inclusive studies on composition and bioactvtes ofthe species with raximum use reports may contibute
significantly in animal-based novel drugs discovery
