Lesson 1 Activity 2: Essay

1. No, because it does not teach that the pope is infallible in everything he says and official
invocation of papal infallibility is extremely rare. For these matters are taught with the
ordinary teaching authority. A significant change in the Roman attitude toward the state
was the council’s explicit endorsement of freedom of religion.

2. The difference between infallibility and impeccability is when infallibility doesn’t

guarantee that popes/bishops will be hypocritical or corrupt, infallibility keeps churches
core teachings from error but doesn’t mean church leaders will practice what they preach.
Its free of error for a doctrine to be infallible means that it can’t be incorrect it is
proclaimed as being guaranteed by God to be true and free from error while the
impeccability is Impeccability means without sin or flawless. Jesus and Mary are the only
people who are impeccable.

Lesson 2 Activity 2: Essay

1. First of all, the church suffering are the souls in purgatory. It’s important to note that
while our souls are immortal, our bodies are not. After death, there are three options: a
person may either go to purgatory for a time of purification in order to stand completely
pure before God at the entrance to His heavenly kingdom; a person who is completely
cleansed of sin will be united with God in heaven among the saints; and of course, the
unfortunate reality is that the person who completely rejects God will find themselves in
hell. Those souls who need to be purifies before seeing Lord God goes to purgatory
because they may not have atoned sufficiently for past sins. Purgatory cleanses the souls
making it worthy to see God

2. As Christ was sent by the Father to forgive sins, so Christ sends the apostles and their
successors forgive sins. Our Catholic Church teaches that Christ was actually granting to
the apostles the authority to forgive sins, and that the apostles passed on to their
successors the same license to pardon sin. Forgiving offenses is among the spiritual
works of mercy, and forgiving others begets being forgiven by God. The Apostle
associates faith in the forgiveness of sins not only with faith in the Holy Spirit, but also
with faith in the Church and in the communion of saints and the mission and the power to
forgive sins through the ministry of the apostles and their successors.

3. Jesus asked believers to approach God for forgiveness through the apostles who were
commissioned to act as his agents. During his life-time Christ forgave sins. Since he
would not always be with the Church physically and visibly, Christ delegated this power
to other men so that the Church would be able to offer forgiveness to future generations.
He gave this as a communicable power to the apostles so it could be passed on to their
successors, the bishops. It’s natural to be concerned about pouring out one’s soul to
another human, especially one we may not know. That’s what we do when we go to
confession. It helps, though, to remember that we really pour our soul out to God. The
priest is God’s representative and witness. This sacrament is different from telling a
friend or counselor about the wrong we have done. That is why The priest is the face of
God’s mercy and the community’s representative when he forgives a person’s sin. He is a
mediator of God’s mercy and forgiveness.
Lesson 3 Activity 2: Essay

1. Yes, the border place between heaven and hell where dwell those souls who, though not
condemned to punishment, are deprived of the joy of eternal existence with God in
heaven. Purgatory purifies the soul before the soul’s grand entrance into heaven and
often-misunderstood Catholic doctrine Souls are not in a state to be ready to enter
heaven, they need to first be cleansed. People can also help themselves by attending
confession, repenting and working hard to become more virtuous. All people can be
cleansed of their sins in purgatory and enter heaven as therefore God can complete his
purpose to redeem and restore the whole of creation.

Lesson 4 Activity 2: Reflection Write up

If when General Judgment Day happens, I don’t think, I consider myself to be fully
worthy to be placed on his right hand because I am not perfect in this world and need to be
cleansed and purifies to God first but God has do everything to make us forgiven. I have received
abundant grace and mercy for my own short comings, mistakes, and sins, and I cannot contain
my excitement when I share that others have the same abundant grace and mercy available to
them. We do not deserve it, and in God’s infinite love for us, He deeply desires that we take hold
of the gifts that He offers. For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that
whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. We are still worthy in God’s eyes
because of what did for us on the cross.
