PREFACE

First at all, give thanks for God’s love and grace for us.

Thanks to God for helping me and give me chance to finish this assighment timely. And I would like
to say thank you to Hj. Alfu Nikmah, M. Pd. as the lecturer that always teaches us and give much
knowledge about how to practice English well.

This assighment is the one of English task that composed of Practical English Usage English As
Second Language I realized this assighment is not perfect. But I hope it can be useful for us. Critics and
suggestion is needed here to make this assighment be better.

Hopefully we as a student in “Institut Agama Islam Negeri Kudus” can work more professional by
using English as the second language whatever we done. Thank you.

DISCUSSION

A. Example Teks Philosophy of Education

Philosophy of Education

Philosophy of education is the philosophy used in the study of educational


problems. Philosophy will determine "where to take" our students. Philosophy is a set of
values that underlies and guides towards the achievement of educational goals. Therefore,
the philosophy adopted by a particular nation or group of people or adopted by
individuals (in this case Lecturers/Teachers) will greatly affect the educational goals to be
achieved.

The philosophy adopted by a country, however, will color the goals of education
in that country. Thus, the educational goals of a country will be different from other
countries, adjusted to the philosophy adopted by these countries.

The purpose of education is basically a comprehensive formulation of what


should be achieved. The objectives contain statements about various abilities that are
expected to be possessed by students in accordance with the value system and philosophy
adopted. This shows that there is a very close relationship between the philosophy
adopted and the educational goals formulated.

Philosophy at first questioned who humans were. The study of this issue explores
human nature so that several assumptions about humans emerge. For example, humans
are religious creatures, social creatures, cultural creatures, and so on. From this study,
philosophy tries to examine three main issues, namely the nature of right - wrong (logic /
science), the nature of good - bad (ethics), and the essence of beautiful - not beautiful
(aesthetics). Basically, the view of human life includes these three aspects, so that these
three aspects are indispensable in education, especially in determining the direction and
goals of education.

Terjemahan
Filsafat pendidikan

Filsafat pendidikan adalah filsafat yang digunakan dalam studi mengenai


masalah-masalah pendidikan. Filsafat akan menentukan “mau dibawa kemana” siswa
kita. Filsafat merupakan perangkat nilai-nilai yang melandasi dan membimbing ke arah
pencapaian tujuan pendidikan. Oleh sebab itu, filsafat yang dianut oleh suatu bangsa atau
kelompok masyarakat tertentu atau yang dianut oleh perorangan (dalam hal ini
Dosen/Guru) akan sangat mempengaruhi tujuan pendidikan yang ingin dicapai.

Falsafah yang dianut oleh suatu Negara bagaimanapun akan mewarnai tujuan
pendidikan di negara tersebut. Dengan demikian,tujuan pendidikan suatu negara akan
berbeda dengan negara lainnya, disesuaikan dengan falsafah yang dianut oleh negara-
negara tersebut.

Tujuan pendidikan pada dasarnya merupakan rumusan yang komprehemsif


mengenai apa yang seharusnya dicapai. Tujuan itu memuat pernyataan-pernyataan
(statement) mengenai berbagai kemampuan yang diharapkan dapat dimiliki oleh siswa
selaras dengan sistem nilai dan falsafah yang dianut. Hal ini menunjukkan adanya
keterkaitan yang sangat erat antara filsafat yang dianut dengan tujuan pendidikan yang
dirumuskan.

Filsafat pada awalnya mempersoalkan siapa manusia itu. Kajian terhadap


persoalan ini menelusuri hakekat manusia sehingga muncul beberapa asumsi tentang
manusia. Misalnya, manusia adalah makhluk religi, makhluk sosial, makhluk yang
berbudaya, dan sebagainya. Dari telaah tersebut filsafat mencoba menelaah tiga pokok
persoalan, yaitu hakekat benar - salah (logika/ ilmu), hakekat baik - buruk (etika), dan
hakekat indah - tidak indah (estetika). Pada dasarnya, pandangan hidup manusia
mencakup ketiga aspek tersebut, sehingga ketiga aspek tersebut sangat diperlukan dalam
pendidikan, terutama dalam menentukan arah dan tujuan pendidikan.

B. Linking Verb

Linking Verb adalah kata kerja penghubung antara subjek dengan


complement (noun, adverb, adjective). Dengan kata lain kata kerja ini selalu
dalam Bentuk intransitive karena tidak ada objek langsung (direct object) yang
menerima aksi.

Fungsi linking verb, sesuai dengan namanya Linking Verb yaitu Kata
Penghubung. Linking Verb mempunyai peran penting dalam sebuah klausa atau
kalimat, yaitu sebagai penghubung antara subject dengan pelengkap
(complement). Complement ini dapat berupa noun, adverb, adjective. Dan perlu
kalian ingat bahwa lingking verb bukanlah Main atau Full verb. Lingking verb
hanya mempunyai fungsi sebagai kata kerja penghubung antara subject dan
pelengkap.

Jenis Lingking Verb

1. verb of sensation (feel, look, sound, smell, taste)


2. verb of being (appear, act, be, become, continue, grow, prove, remain, turn, seem).
3. Linking verb be sebagai berikut: is, am, are (present tense) , was, were (past tense) dan be
(present subjunctive dan imperative).

Sebagai penjelasan tambahan bahwa banyak sekali kata kerja (Verb) yang dapat digunakan baik
sebagai action verbs atau linking verbs. Kata kerja (verb) yang demikian juga sering dikenal
dengan sebutan resultative verbs. Yaitu kata kerja (verb) yang berhubungan dengan panca indra
kita sering digunakan dalam fungsi ini.
Kata kerja (Verbs) tersebut diantaranya adalah:

Contoh kalimat linking verbs pada verb of sensation maupun being adalah sebagai berikut.
• Daffy is excited about his promotion. Daffy gembira mengenai promosi dirinya.
• She appears upset about the announcement. Dia muncul dan marah tentang pengumuman itu.
• The eggs smell rotten. Telur bau busuk.
• He went red after tripping on the rug. Dia pergi merah setelah tersandung pada karpet.
• Your plans for the wedding sound nice. Rencana kamu untuk pernikahan terdengar bagus.
• You look exhausted after studying all night. kamu terlihat lelah setelah belajar sepanjang
malam
• I am putty in his hands. Aku takluk di tangan-Nya
• Tasya might have been more forthcoming with the news. Tasya mungkin telah lebih akan
datang dengan berita.
• Tom acted nervous when the teacher found the note. Tom bertindak gugup ketika guru
menemukan catatan
• The audience fell silent when the conductor walked on stage. Penonton terdiam ketika
Kondektur berjalan di atas panggung.
• Dreams come true when we believe in them. Mimpi menjadi kenyataan ketika kita percaya
kepadanya.
