The Alucard Sword, Alucard Shield, and Alucard Mail are family heirlooms of Alucard’s
mother, a human woman named Lisa. The Dragon Helm allows Alucard to cause fear upon all
enemies viewing it, if he so desires (10 foot maximum range, DC 16). This power is a standard
action that may be invoked once per day.
Design Notes: Alucard is the main character in the Playstation video game Castlevania:
Symphony of the Night. He uses the “half-vampire” template described here. This template is
designed with the Alucard write-up in mind and is intended to give him the vampire-like abilities
he displays in the video game. It can easily be used in the creation of any similar character
however.
HALF-VAMPIRE (Template)
The half-vampire is the half-mortal offspring of an unnatural union between a vampire and a
human. A half-vampire can easily pass for a human (although he is normally quite pale). A half-
vampire is almost always ignorant of his heritage; his occult legacy doesn’t usually manifest
until puberty.
Creating a half-vampire
“Half-Vampire” is an inherited template that can be added to any giant, humanoid, or monstrous
humanoid creature (referred to hereafter as the “base creature”). Unlike a true vampire, the
creature type does not change to “undead”. It uses all the base creature’s statistics and special
abilities except as noted here.
Special Qualities: A half-vampire retains all the special qualities of the base creature and those
listed below:
Alternate Form (Su): A half-vampire can assume the shape of a bat, dire bat, wolf, or dire wolf
as a standard action. This ability is similar to a polymorph spell cast by a 12th level character,
except that the half-vampire does not gain hit points for changing form and most choose from
among the forms mentioned here. While in its alternate form, the half-vampire gains the natural
weapons and extraordinary special attacks of its new form. It can remain in that form until it
assumes another or until the next day.
Darkvision (Ex): A half-vampire gains darkvision with a range of 60 feet. If the base creature
already had darkvision, use the greater range.
Gaseous Form (Su): As a standard action, a half-vampire can assume gaseous form at will as the
spell (caster level 5th), but it can remain gaseous indefinitely.
Immunities (Ex): Half-vampires are invulnerable to vampire’s domination and suffer none of the
weaknesses of true vampires.
Light Sensitivity (Ex): Half-vampires are dazzled in bright sunlight or within the radius of a
daylight spell.
Slow Aging (Ex): Upon reaching maturity, a half-vampire ages at one-fourth of the base
creature’s normal rate.
Abilities: Increase fro the base creature as follows: Str +2, Dex +2, Cha +2.
Skills: Half-vampires receive a +4 racial bonus to Bluff, Hide, Listen, and Move Silently, and
Spot checks.
Feats: Half-vampires gain Improved Initiative as a bonus feat.
Challenge Rating: Same as the base creature +1.
Alignment: Any (but usually evil).
Advancement: By character class.
Level Adjustment: Same as the base creature +4.
I'm a fan of Castlevania, my favorite being Symphony of the Night. I wrote this purely for fun
(so don't be surprised if its not "good design"). ;). I'm unsure who to credit for the pic.
