TRITONS

“Don’t ever invite Aryn to parties again. She always does this thing where she thinks
she’s better than anyone else. I don’t get it. Apparently coming from the bottom of the sea
makes you too good for cheap beer and smoking weed.”
- A very angry Stacy

As happens in land, the water is dominated by ferocious and huge sea creatures;
violent and bloodthirsty monsters who lurk in the dark depths of the ocean. It would be
fair to assume the realm of the deep is reserved to these wild creatures, but it would not
be entirely true.

Tritons are about the only real sentient race who makes their home in the infinite
throes of the sea floor, and they do so in opulence and imperiality. They are a traditional
folk, who hold their mannerisms and presentation to the standards of old. Others would
normally regard Tritons as well-dressed, noble and snobby.

They very much prefer each other’s company and often find ways to criticize aspects
of a surface dweller’s life. They pride themselves in that they keep many of the unseen
sea monsters at bay and provide one of the fastest ways of transportation across
landmasses. But pride tends to be triton society biggest flaw. In their richness, prosperity
and belief in their long deceased king which still leads them in a way, they have allowed
themselves an unconscious, automatic sense of self-importance. This has proven the
biggest obstacle in foreign politics, and as such, tritons don’t finish to integrate fully into
the already fractured wider world.

APPEARANCE

Tritons are primarily underwater dwellers, and as such, their physical characteristics
are not unlike many aquatic fauna found in the depths. Their skin is leathery as an eel
and normally blue-green in coloration. Most distinctively, they do not fashion or have the
ability to generate hair. Instead, manyfold tendrils hang from their heads. They fashion
these tendrils in a variety of ways, but cannot naturally grow more than what they
already grew with. Instead, there are artificial, medical treatments to add or remove
tendrils from a triton, usually for cosmetic purposes.

Tritons favor long cuts of cloth and robes, and outfits that fit tight to the body as to
allow them unencumbered movement through water. Normally, they dress in very
elegant, gilded attires. They stray away from intricate patterns and favor bold, solid
colors such as white, blue, green or purple all adorned by the ever prevalent gold.

Gold figures heavily in the otherwise jade and coral colors of their aesthetic, as it
symbolizes their power. However, beyond gold, Tritons regard pearly whites as a holy
color and as such, shining towers of pearly white abound in their cities and pearls of all
type are all the rage in necklaces and pendants.

While a triton is not against the idea of foreign fashion, most of then put physical and
aesthetic appearance above that of others.

THE HOLY CORPSE

Triton government and religion is highly atypical. Triton religion and culture centers
around the belief that that King Priamos the Tidefather, who wielded the fury and the
magic of the sea, was so powerful, intelligent and strong in life that his time-ridden
corpse still holds his will and soul.

King Priamos is considered by many tritons to be quite alive, yet unable to speak his
great wisdow directly due to his crippled body. However, what remains of him are but
old bones and dead tissue kept from disintegrating by meticulous caretakers and new
technologies.

Tritons are thus lead by King Priamos himself, yet the ones that impart his will and
thought are his speakers. Holy priests honored to decipher the supposed magical
utterances of King Priamos. Through his “tidecallers,” Priamos dictates his wisdow on
politics, conflict, day to day philosophy and code of conduct; above all, a fierce sense of
patriotism and pride.

It is truly unknown if King Priamos is actually speaking, however. Many iconoclasts

think King Priamos’ corpse is but a farse; a mask for a corrupt system. That the
tidecallers have and continue to use the holy corpse as a front to justify their own biased
decisitions. But many do not put to question the will of the tidecallers nor the power and
love of King Priamos.

IN THE LAND OF DARK DEEP

A surface dweller rarely ever visit triton cities. The trip is often expensive and, due to
the lack of oxygen, almost impossible; not to mention the surplus of speedy underwater
creatures hidden by darkness. While there are a few ways for land dwellers to breathe
underwater, trips to the triton realm are very expensive and often not worth the cost. As
such, most people can’t really fathom or even imagine a triton’s normal way of being or
situation.

Tritons enjoy comfort and value success above all things. They play by the book for
the most part and try to keep chaotic enviroments and behaviours out of the equation.
Their society is wholly maintened by a complicated set of laws, regulations and
bureaucracy, so many that they themselves can’t keep up with all of them.

Tritons tend to have a stoic outlook on things due to the dangerous enviroment they
live in and the social pressure exerted onto most for success and prosperity; anything that
contributes to the well and correct image of the tritons is encouraged and demanded.

In pursuit of professional excellency, they choose careers that exemplify superiorness

and competitiveness. As such, artists, philosophers, scientists and acute soldiers abound
in triton society, while criminals enterprises are not much chosen because they don’t
exactly contribute to personal grandeur.

In this spirit, competition lies at the heart of a triton’s culture. They always want to
excell and be the best at something, be it minute things or great tasks. More often than
not, a triton amidsts a group of colleagues or friends will often spark tests of prowess or
assert dominance by example. Among surface dwellers, a “wethead” is slang for
someone who generally tries to show off, derivated from triton antics.

TRITONS CURRENTLY

As of today, tritons hold a tenuous relationships with the greedy goblinoids of

increase productions and factories expell their residues to the free waters. While none of
them have tried serious diplomatic encounters, it is hard to think that the goblins will
stop, for their bussiness relates intrinsically to their money centered culture and religion.

Not only that, but Echriam also poses a threat to the tritons as still after two years
they still hold one of the destructive titans captive. The tritons participate in the northern
cold war as much as the other nations and sites, preparing for the moment Echriam
releases the beast.

Tritons, however, may gain the upper hand if a conflict came to pass. One of the three
titans that struck two years past disappeared, a seafaring leviathan. According to the
tidecallers, King Priamos has commanded the capture of the leviathan, so that it may
serve in the defense of their underwater realm. Many tritons fear the implications of this,
not wanting to start a war themselves, and conspirators have started to denounce the
tidecallers while the search for the underwater terror continues.

These complicated times have forced many tritons out of their cities. Some of them
are migrants fearful and unsettled by the dangerous political polarity now present within
their society. Others are agents and knights of the Holy Corpse trying to find clues and
tools to find and imprison the missing titan.
