Chapter 5

SUMMARY, CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

5.1 Introduction

This chapter summaries the whole project and major findings of the research, highlights the

conclusions arrived at based on the findings and gives recommendations on the way forward.

This chapter shows all chapters’ summary giving a comprehensive meaning of the research

findings and their significance.

5.2 Summary of chapters

5.2.1 Restatement of the aims of this research paper

1. To analyse the Quality of Service (QoS) mechanisms used by Econet wireless in 4G

LTE network.

2. To analyse the benefits of 4g LTE broadband network offered by Econet Wireless.

3. To analyse the extent to which 4G LTE network QoS is overcoming problems faced

in 2G/3G networks of Econet Wireless.

5.2.2 Summary

The research paper has used literature review focusing on the conceptual framework,

empirical framework and theoretical framework while reviewing the LTE architecture, and

QoS architecture. Chapter Two has described the benefits presented by 4G LTE mobile
network as concurred by (Place et al., 2012) that these improvements in application

performance and enterprise mobility can bring a range of benefits:

 Increased sales and improved customer service

 Improvements in products and services

 Productivity gains

 Personal and team productivity

 Management effectiveness and innovation

 Direct cost reductions

. The researcher has chosen different research methodologies well suited for networking such

as simulations, and questionnaires.

The researcher also used quantitative research approach and proprietary research philosophy

like positivist and epistemology. The researcher used simulations in order to come with

required results. In chapter 4, the researcher has used tables and charts to represent results of

4G LTE analysis and questionnaire responses.

5.3 Research findings

Objective

1. To analyse the Quality of Service (QoS) mechanisms used by Econet wireless in 4G

LTE network.

 Using Omnet++ 5, the researcher has analysed the LTE architecture similar to

Econet Wireless and on each node, data was collected and presented showing

that the LTE core architecture ensures higher throughput.

Objective
2. To analyse the benefits of 4g LTE broadband network offered by Econet Wireless.

 The researcher used questionnaires in order to analyse the benefits of LTE

broadband by Econet Wireless. 40 percent of the population used 4G LTE and

70 percent of the population used mobile internet for Online Trading and

Digital marketing. Which means that the benefits are significant.

Objective

3. To analyse the extent to which 4G LTE network QoS is overcoming problems faced

in 2G/3G networks of Econet Wireless.

 The researcher used two real-time simulation application in order to analyse

both 3G and 4G LTE networks collecting data specific to QoS parameters

found that 4G LTE has solved the problem of low throughput and jitter (which

affects VoIP packets) in 3G networks.

Significance of findings

The findings are of paramount benefit to new Internet Service Providers in away that allow

them to apply LTE architecture in their network bases in order to improve the QoS of mobile

networks.

In as much, using 4G LTE improves certain business processes which particularly require a

reliable connection of mobile broadband.

Lastly, it is important for any mobile broadband user to understand the network types and

their advantages such as high throughput in 4G LTE network which would be required in

order to seamlessly carry out a video conferencing.

5.4 Recommendations
This research paper is recommended to all who aspire to use the internet as a strength in the

SWOT analysis of their business models. This research is recommended is recommended to

new ISP companies who would want to operate within the QoS expectations of any Mobile

Internet Regulation laws. This research is recommended to students who aspire to build their

careers in mobile networking.

2 5.5 Recommendations for future work

This research paper is recommended for future work, since mobile networking is still being

innovated. Besides 4G LTE being the fastest network in Zimbabwe, there is a new network

release called 5G which is even faster and there is even more room for the development of

6G.
