Helsinki
Helsinki is the capital and largest city of Finland. It is located on
the shores of the Gulf of Finland in the Baltic Sea. It is the most
densely populated metropolis in the country.
Helsinki is a center of education, science, culture, business, and
public administration. The capital of Finland stretches along the
northern shore of the Gulf of Finland. It consists of 300 islands
connected by many incredible bridges designed with the latest
technology.
The city is supplied with water through the world's longest tunnel
that runs through high mountains. This is one of the coldest and
gloomiest cities in the world! The average annual temperature
does not exceed 0 degrees Celsius.
In a small picturesque central area, there are 8 high-class
universities and 6 research and innovation centers. The main
shopping street is the Aleksanterinkatu. It houses many expensive
and well-known shops and the largest department store in
Scandinavia - Stockmann. Esplanadi Street with many branded
boutiques runs parallel.
Assumption Cathedral is one of the most significant buildings in
Helsinki. This Orthodox Church is the largest in Western Europe.
It is a beautiful brick building with numerous towers topped with
golden domes.
Daughter of the Baltic Sea - so romantically called the capital of
Finland by its inhabitants. Despite the fact that Helsinki from time
to time suffered in the terrible fires, but each time rebuilt anew
and better than before.
