Welcome to the FortiGate Entry Level product training.

 Routing

These are the topics we will explore in this lesson, beginning with a product overview.
 Routing

By the end of this lesson, we expect you will be able to: identify the business drivers along with the security
challenges that customers currently face, describe the customer value of the FortiGate entry-level products,
identify the Fortinet products and deployment methods included in the entry-level products set, and explain their
competitive advantages and vertical strategies.
There are a lot of buzzwords around adopting cloud-first and digital innovation. You must be wondering, is this Digital
Innovation or Digital Transformation? The fact of the matter is that they are related–one can lead to the other. Higher education
customers want to use digital innovation to digitize courses and gamify courses to make them more interesting. And then
transform the process using digital transformation and offer them online and make them consumable from all types of devices with
the intended solid security framework.

Coming back to cloud-first, it is true that an organization that has this mandate would look for cloud as a first option for any new
application or service. But most organizations may already be using one or more cloud services from more than one cloud
provider. And what is the impact on your existing campus and data centers architectures? So to consume services from one or
more clouds, you need to adopt a hybrid IT approach - and as a result, your data centers become hybrid in nature.

The next logical question would be, “how you would deliver consistent security posture across this increased attack surface?”
Attacks are becoming sophisticated and our ability to detect, contain, and isolate them have become limited. So organizations are
spending lots of money dealing with the damage that is caused.

Encrypted traffic is rising, at approximately 80% by volume as cited by Gartner, and NSS Labs publishes similar numbers. We
have no idea if the encrypted traffic is clean or if it contains malware. A natural consequence of dealing with attacks is to add
more security products. Then why are the attack-related losses rising? One possible reason would be that these products don't
share threat intelligence with each other because they operate in silos.

These are some of the major challenges that our customers are facing and something that is getting validated through our
discourse with them and our partners that support them.
 Routing

As we observed in the previous slide, many customers feel that today’s WAN infrastructure is a big obstacle for
digital transformation. With the traditional WAN infrastructure model, branches do not have direct internet
connectivity to the internet. The datacenter is the only location that has internet connectivity. As a result, when
branches need to access cloud applications, traffic has to be backhauled from the branch to the datacenter and
then to the cloud.

In addition to this, without SD-WAN enterprises do not have any visibility into applications. As a result, business
critical applications cannot be prioritized over other consumer applications, which are also going out to the
internet.

In addition, WAN infrastructure primarily uses MPLS, which can be very expensive and has limited bandwidth.
With the increasing volume of data, MPLS costs can be quite high.

So as you can see, today’s WAN has several drawbacks—High WAN Cost, No visibility, and High SaaS Latency that
prevents enterprises from truly realizing the benefits of digital transformation.
 Routing

Now, let’s take a look at how SD-WAN can help solve these new WAN challenges. First, SD-WAN greatly reduces the WAN
operating costs for distributed enterprises by allowing them to leverage cheap internet broadband links in place of expensive
MPLS lines. Each branch is also given direct internet connectivity to the internet, which greatly reduces the latency. Instead of
backhauling the traffic to the datacenter, branches can now directly reach the internet to access cloud applications.

Most importantly, SD-WAN provides visibility into applications so that critical business applications can be prioritized. This means
that applications that may be critical for employee productivity, such as Office365 and Skype, are prioritized over all other internet
traffic, such as Facebook and YouTube.

When you compare legacy WAN vs SD-WAN, the benefits are obvious—Reduced WAN Cost, Better Visibility, and Low SaaS
Latency. All these benefits make SD-WAN a key component to achieve digital transformation.
Fortinet’s flagship product is the FortiGate Next Generation Firewall (NGFW). Fortinet is a leader in enterprise firewall, and offers
several advanced features in not only security, but also in networking. FortiGate NGFWs offer best of breed security, along with
best of breed SD-WAN. Fortinet’s Next Generation Firewalls come with integrated SD-WAN capabilities, making it simple for
customers to adopt SD-WAN without compromising on security. SD-WAN is not only built in, but it’s also available as part of the
base license. This means that customers can leverage the SD-WAN functionality at absolutely no additional cost.

FortiGate NGFWs have the same operating system across all models, making it flexible to deploy—whether you need SD-WAN
for a small branch with 15 users or a large branch with more than 100 users. FortiGate NGFWs come with best of breed SD-WAN
functionalities, such as Application Visibility, WAN path control, Bandwidth Management, and IPSec VPN. The benefits of SD-
WAN can be realized without any security risk, by utilizing NGFW features, such as application control, IPS, Antivirus, and URL
Filtering. Advanced security features such as SSL inspection and sandboxing are also included to prevent unknown and
sophisticated threats. Fortinet’s custom built processors enable customers to turn on all these features without any impact on
performance.

FortiGate Entry Level devices are best suited for distributed enterprise deployments. They start from the
FortiGate 30 series to FortiGate 90 series. FortiGate Entry Level devices are recognized as having the industry’s
highest threat protection performance. Threat protection performance is measured with Application Control, IPS,
AntiVirus or AV, and Firewall functionality turned on. For SD-WAN, VPN performance is also an important factor to
consider. With Fortinet’s custom-built security processors or SPUs, FortiGate devices are renowned for their VPN
performance.

The FortiGate 30E and 50E series offer an excellent network security solution in a compact fanless desktop
form factor for enterprise branch offices and mid-sized businesses. 30E has threat protection performance of 150
Mbps and VPN performance of 75 Mbps. The FortiGate 50E has threat protection performance of 160 Mbps and
90 Mbps of VPN performance.

The 60F is one of the best-selling models, powered by our SoC4 SPU for high performance. It has Threat
Performance of 700 Mbps and VPN performance of 6.5 Gbps. The FortiGate 80E is the next in line with 250 Mbps
Threat Protection performance and 2.5 Gbps VPN performance. The FortiGate 90E model is the top of the line in
the entry level with 270 Mbps threat protection performance.

In addition to these devices, the FortiGate Rugged platform offers industrially hardened, all-in-one security that
delivers specialized threat protection for securing critical industrial and control networks. It has threat protection

various subscription services offered by Fortinet and ensures customers have the latest visibility and
protection. Second, customers love the fact that there is only one operating system across all platforms—
entry level, mid-range, and high-end. Third, the devices at distributed branch locations can all be
monitored and managed with ease using FortiManager, the single pane of glass management.
 Routing

FortiGate SD-WAN has the best of breed SD-WAN and best of breed security. The key offerings include Native SD-WAN, high
application performance with NGFW Security and Scalability, and Zero Touch Provisioning.

The biggest value proposition for FortiGate SD-WAN is the fact that SD-WAN comes built-in with the FortiGate Next Generation
Firewall. This means that customers get advanced SD-WAN functionality with zero complexity and at no additional cost. FortiGate
SD-WAN is rich in features, and includes all SD-WAN functionality such as Application Steering, WAN Path Control, and Zero
Touch provisioning. There are 3 million FortiGate devices out there, which would require a simple upgrade to become SD-WAN
ready.

You are probably already familiar with the fact that FortiGate Next Generation Firewalls are well known for both their performance
as well as security effectiveness. High application performance is critical for SD-WAN, as enterprises strive to improve productivity
by providing the best experience for employees and customers. As discussed earlier, security is also an important consideration
for branches deploying SD-WAN to protect the branch from internet-borne advanced attacks.

Last but not least, software defined technology was meant to bring ease of management and deployment to the networking
teams. Fortinet aims to achieve these benefits by providing a single centralized pane of glass for simple management and
monitoring. Fortinet has worked with distributed enterprises for more than 10 years and has experience deploying SD-WAN to
more than 10,000 branch locations. This is a key differentiator that other vendors cannot provide.
Now, let’s understand why native SD-WAN is a major differentiator for Fortinet.

Fortinet is a market share leader in enterprise branch security. Fortinet is not only a leader in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for
Enterprise Firewall, but also a leader in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for UTM. Fortinet also has more than 300,000 customers and
more than 3 million devices out there. According to IDC, Fortinet has the largest number of devices shipped. With such a big
customer base, Fortinet tries to provide increasing value to customers with a rich set of features. Fortinet’s entry into SD-WAN
illustrates the ease in which customers can quickly adopt new technology.

For organizations that are migrating to cloud applications, FortiGate SD-WAN provides direct internet access to reduce latency
and increase application performance. The network experience of employees and customers remains responsive and secure.

To make this possible, Fortinet provides visibility into more than 3000 applications. Business critical traffic can then be prioritized
providing high application performance. It’s important to note that Fortinet doesn’t outsource any of these application signatures
and thus we are able to quickly add signatures for new and popular applications.

10
FortiGate NGFWs are known for high performance because of custom built security processors. High application performance is a
fundamental requirement for SD-WAN, and FortiGate delivers industry’s best IPSEC VPN performance, as well as threat
protection performance. With the help of security processors, even features such as SSL inspection can be turned on without
worrying about performance degradation.

11
 Routing

The most popular entry-level model is the 60F, which is equipped with the latest security processor CP9. For such a small desktop
box, it has an impressive performance of 6.5 Gbps for IPSEC VPN, 700 Mbps of threat protection and a high port density of 10
gigabit Ethernet interfaces. It ships with the latest FortiOS version 6.2 that has more than 200 new features added to it.

The security processors help FortiGate devices stand out as it enables higher IPSEC VPN performance and allows enterprises to
establish a large number of VPN tunnels. Imagine a fast food corporation that has thousands of branches across the world – in a
partial mesh deployment, each branch device would need to support thousands of VPN tunnels. The 100E can support 2000
tunnels with a small form factor.
 Routing

Fortinet is a leader in the Gartner Enterprise Firewall Magic Quadrant, and continues to innovate boasting more than 400 patents.
It offers a rich set of advanced NGFW functionality. It includes:

• Application Control to quickly create policies to allow, deny, or restrict access to applications or entire categories of
applications

• Intrusion Prevention to protect against the latest network intrusions by detecting and blocking threats before they reach
network devices

• Antivirus to protect against the latest viruses, spyware, and other content-level threats. It uses industry-leading advanced
detection engines to prevent both new and evolving threats from gaining a foothold inside your network and accessing its
invaluable content

• URL Filtering that protects organizations by blocking access to malicious, hacked, or inappropriate websites

• Sandboxing, an advanced threat detection solution that performs dynamic analysis to identify previously unknown malware

• And last but not the least, SSL Inspection to gain visibility into encrypted traffic and prevent encrypted malware

Fortinet continues to provide new services such as Virus Outbreak Prevention and Content Disarm and Reconstruction.

Of course, all these services are of no use without the continuous protection provided by FortiGuard. FortiGuard threat intelligence
encompasses research performed by FortiGuard analysts in cooperation with extended security industry and law enforcement
organizations. FortiGuard is credited with over 528 zero day discoveries – a record unmatched by any other security vendor.
The third differentiator is scalability and zero touch provisioning. Fortinet is the only vendor capable of managing 10,000+
branches and has a successful proven record with large distributed enterprise customers. With 70% of the Fortune 100 being
Fortinet’s customers, Fortinet has a good understanding about large deployments and provisioning them with ease.

As Fortinet’s centralized management console, FortiManager provides a single pane of glass for management and monitoring.
FortiManager can scale to more than 10,000 devices, provides end to end visibility across all locations, and includes multi-tenancy
for role-based organizations or multi-customer management. With FortiManager, customers can easily control the deployment of
SD-WAN policies, FortiGuard updates, firmware revisions, and individual configurations for thousands of Fortinet devices – all
from one single location. This greatly simplifies the day to day operations for both the networking and the security teams.

We also make it very easy to onboard new devices for Secure SD-WAN deployments with zero touch provisioning. Basically, the
customer receives the FortiGate and connects it to the Internet. It then uses our zero touch deployment feature, which reaches out
to FortiManager and automatically receives all the configuration. We have large customers that have used this feature to deploy
across 10,000 sites.

14
 Routing

One of the biggest reasons why customers prefer FortiGate SD-WAN is the simplicity of security combined with SD-WAN. This
aspect is extended to centralized management as well, where the team is provided with an integrated NOC and SOC view so that
the security and the networking alerts are all in one place. FortiManager not only provides this broad view of the network, but also
provides detailed application level monitoring. This can be very useful in examining SD-WAN policies to determine if they are
effective or not.

As mentioned, scalability is one of Fortinet’s key differentiators. As an example to support this claim, FortiManager also provides a
view of VPN tunnels that have been set up between the devices across the globe. It’s a one screen view to quickly detect any
issues. Fortinet has also patented the virtual domains functionality to support multi-tenancy. This is useful when a large
organization has several teams, and each team needs a different set of policies. We’ll look at Superunie, a large supermarket who
deployed Fortinet SD-WAN and implemented multi-tenancy to push different retail formulae depending on the geographic location.
The second driver is reduction of “WAN OpEx spending”, without affecting the quality of applications.

Fortinet SD-WAN helped a multinational automotive supplier to address their immediate needs for a new WAN infrastructure. The
customer experienced the challenges of a company that was rapidly growing – they had 140 locations and more than 80,000
employees. They had an immediate need for SD-WAN, as they had already moved to the cloud and, as they added more
locations and employees, they found their MPLS network very expensive. They also had some unique requirements for SLA
strategy – where they could not only define SLA based on how critical the application is, but also based on the WAN operating
costs. FortiGate SD-WAN helped them tackle all their problems efficiently, providing even a method to configure multiple SLA
strategies. For their Office365 traffic, the customer could configure an SLA that would always choose the best link, regardless of
the cost of the link. Whereas, for medium priority traffic such as Dropbox, the customer was able to specify a lesser reliable link,
and for the application and, only if the quality degraded, move the application to the best quality link. They were impressed with
Fortinet for providing an innovative and quick solution to their problem.

16
The third use case that we are seeing is “consolidation of branch services”.

Superunie—a large supermarket in Northern Europe, has 30% of the market share in the Netherlands , with 10 datacenters and
1500 branches. So, you can imagine the scale. They are going through digital transformation to simplify management and
increase productivity. With the growing number of the Internet of Things devices, their branches demanded more bandwidth. But,
what is so interesting about their use case, in addition to scale, is that they have 13 independent retail members, each with it’s
own set of unique networking and security requirements. Only a few vendors could meet Superunie’s unique set of SD-WAN
requirements. Fortinet was able to use the patented VDOM functionality that helped Superunie deploy multiple formulae for
networking and security based on the retail member. So, they had the flexibility of having different policies for different branches,
but at the same time they were able to use centralized management to manage them all. They were so impressed with the
simplicity that they decided to extend Fortinet for their LAN solution as well.

 Routing

Good job! You now understand the FortiGate Entry-Level products, and their features and benefits.

In the next lesson, we’ll examine specific sales strategies and other FortiGate-related sales enablement topics.

Please continue to the next part of this lesson.

 Routing
 Routing

Now that you have completed the FortiGate Entry Level product overview, let’s examine specific sales strategies and other
FortiGate-related sales enablement topics.
Due to the obvious benefits of SD-WAN, the market is growing aggressively at 40% Compound Annual Growth
Rate or CAGR. The market is expected to reach $4.5 billion dollars by 2022.

SD-WAN plays a pivotal role in digital transformation, and public cloud adoption is expected to grow. Yet, 46% of
customers still backhaul the traffic to their datacenters. As we have seen, this is an inefficient method and a
hindrance to cloud adoption. So the next 2 years can be a huge opportunity to leverage our distributed enterprise
customer base, and go after CISCO legacy routers.

Remember, proactively ask your enterprise customers about SD-WAN. Ask them if they are going through digital
transformation, or if they would like to reduce their WAN OpEx Spending or consolidate their branch devices.

21
 Routing

We looked at the key business drivers and a customer use case to go along with each. This gives you a deep dive
of the business drivers and the challenges customers face. A lot of enterprises are adopting cloud applications for
faster deployment and convenience. Customers are moving their data center applications to multi-cloud, such as
AWS and Azure, as well as using more cloud-hosted applications, such as Office365 and Salesforce.

But, current WAN infrastructure is too outdated. Since traffic has to be backhauled from the branch to the
datacenter to the internet, it can cause significant latency. To avoid this, some customers rely on local internet
breakout. But that is also not sufficient, because you still cannot prioritize business critical apps and you are also
exposing your branch to malware without proper protection.

With FortiGate SD-WAN, customers can achieve high levels of application performance at the branch. The branch
is given direct internet connectivity, so that the WAN traffic need not take a convoluted route to the cloud. The
WAN traffic is also no longer looked at in terms of bits and bytes, but in terms of business objectives—is this a
high priority business application that needs to go out on the best WAN link? Fortinet can identify more than 3000
applications, giving customers a chance to prioritize business-critical applications such as Skype or Office365, as
well as granular sub-applications such as Office365Email or Office365SharePoint.

FortiGate SD-WAN doesn’t stop there – it takes it one step further to solve the complete problem whether it is
network or security. With direct internet connectivity, branches need NGFW security – application control, IPS, AV
and URL filtering to stop all the known threats, as well as advanced security such as sandboxing and SSL inspection
to protect unsuspecting employees from the threats that you have been reading about in the newspapers.
Fortinet has a long history of being successful in security, and has been consistently recommended by third-party
tests such as NSS for NGFW.
 Routing

Both these benefits—application visibility and NGFW security at the branch ensure that enterprises have
all that they need for rapidly adopting digital transformation.
 Routing

The next use case is “Reduction of WAN OpEx Spending”. Growing enterprises are looking for new ways to reduce
operating costs, and traditional WAN can be quite expensive. SD-WAN offers the perfect solution by allowing
enterprises to move to broadband, and use high bandwidth links. As attractive as it sounds, the challenge is in
maintaining the same level of quality of experience with broadband links. Broadband can be unreliable
sometimes, so customers also need a way to efficiently maintain the app SLA and monitor performance of the
applications in a more granular way.

With the help of application steering, branches can send business critical traffic, such as voice, over the best WAN
link, and the lower priority apps, like Twitter and Facebook, over lower quality links. Now, if there is too much
packet loss/jitter or latency, then Fortinet would dynamically failover business critical applications to MPLS. So,
with the help of these 3 components—app steering, WAN path control, and dynamic app failover, enterprises can
maintain the same standard of application quality by switching to a cheaper broadband link.

In addition to these benefits, networking teams can also gain more visibility into their WAN traffic—not just at a
link level but at a more granular level. This is very helpful for teams to understand their own network, as new
applications are being used everyday. It also helps teams to monitor link performance from an application
perspective to ensure that there is no degradation in the quality of any services.
 Routing

As technologies evolve, there is another new point product that customers need to worry about. As a result, even
a small branch with 30 or 50 people requires 3 or 4 devices for everyday functions. Enterprises are looking to
consolidate routing, security, and now SD-WAN into a single device. The biggest challenge that customers face is
having too many management consoles. Setting up a new branch can be a headache too, if the team needs to
provision multiple devices especially a small branch where there is limited personnel available.

Fortinet SD-WAN consists of the FortiGate SD-WAN—the edge device that takes care of routing, security, and SD-
WAN, as well as FortiManager, which is the controller and main management center for all devices—WAN or LAN,
this includes managing Fortinet’s NGFW, switches and Aps, all from a single console. This is a huge benefit,
especially for customers who are looking to build a network infrastructure for the next generation branch.
FortiManager also provides the single pane of glass for managing networking and security operations, so that
teams can work more efficiently.
Routing

As you approach a prospect here are a variety of qualifying questions you may want to use. We don’t expect you
to use them all in this order or even all of them. You can pick and choose as is appropriate for the conversation.

Let’s review them.

• What digital transformation initiatives do you have going on or are planning for and does that include moving
to the cloud?
• How do you have your current WAN infrastructure configured to handle increasing branch traffic?
• Do you plan to have direct internet connectivity for your branches? Have you considered the security
implications?
• Are you looking to minimize your WAN operating expenses?
• Are you looking to consolidate networking and security services at the branch?
 Routing

There are more than 60 vendors in the SD-WAN space. So, it’s important for customers to understand how to pick
a solution that would best satisfy their needs. Let’s take a look at the major components for an SD-WAN
solution—it includes advanced SD-WAN functionality, NGFW security, Single Console, and Overall Cost.

Pure play SD-WAN solutions that were recently acquired, such as VMWare VeloCloud or Cisco Viptela, may have
complete SD-WAN functionality but they miss the security aspect. On another parallel, security vendors such as
Palo Alto Networks or Checkpoint don’t even offer an SD-WAN solution.

The trend we are seeing now, is that security and SD-WAN vendors integrate their products to provide a
combined solution. However, they have increased complexity when it comes to management – two separate
devices, two separate consoles, and maintenance. The cost is also high as the customer needs to pay for 2
devices.

With Fortinet, customers get the best of breed security and best of breed SD-WAN, a single management console
for networking and security as well as and low total cost of ownership—not only because security and SD-WAN is
integrated, but also SD-WAN is available at no additional cost.
There are a several of SD-WAN vendors, but the competitors that are most common are
VeloCloud, Versa, Viptela, Cisco Meraki, IWAN, and Riverbed. When it comes to SD-WAN
functionality, Cisco iWAN and Meraki are limited.

NGFW Security is absent in several vendors, including VeloCloud, Viptela and Cisco iWAN. Cisco
Meraki lacks SSL inspection, which is key to identify encrypted traffic.

Single pane of glass management for security and SD-WAN is absent or only partial for the
majority of the vendors.

Fortinet also performs very well in scalable deployments, which is absent in VeloCloud, Versa,
Riverbed, as well as Meraki.

In addition to all these features and capabilities, Fortinet has the lowest Total Cost of Ownership.
 Routing

SD-WAN functionality is available at no additional cost as it is part of the base license of the FortiGate Next
Generation Firewall. With an easy upgrade, customers can leverage the SD-WAN functionality available in FortiOS
5.6.

FortiGuard services are optional, but are definitely recommended to get the latest content and security updates.
Application Control provides visibility into business critical applications. Web Filtering ensures safe browsing for
branches with direct internet access. FortiCloud Sandbox is used to prevent advanced threats for branches with
local internet breakout.
Routing

Now we’ll go though the general ordering flow for the FortiGate and FortiWifi entry-level security appliances. Just
for reference, here is a part number example from a recent price list showing the FortiGate 60F platform. Always
refer to the current price list for the correct SKUs.

There are five sections that describe the product and services available:

1—The FortiGate (here abbreviated FGT) and FortiWifi (here abbreviated FWF) entry-level platforms are hardware
appliances. Entry-level platforms include the FortiGate and FortiWifi 30 through 90 series. The base platform
includes firewall, IPSEC VPN, advanced routing, traffic shaping, network address translation, and wireless
controller functionality. Along with this, every appliance has multiple integrated one gigabit Ethernet ports.
Looking at the SKU example, for a base platform you might quote FG-60F.

2—There are no specific licenses for entry-level products, even if you add wireless access points later. No
additional licensing is needed (unlike some of our competitors).

3—FortiCare refers to hardware support services. We have various options available: 8x5, 24x7, 360 degrees, as
well as professional services. More detail on each service is covered in the FortiCare lesson. As an example, if a
customer is looking for a 24x7 FortiCare contract, then you would add a quote for FC-10-0060F-247-02-DD.

4—We have many FortiGuard subscription services available that enable advanced protection for applications,
users, and devices. Customers can purchase individual services such as “Mobile and Anti-botnet Security”,
“FortiSandbox Cloud”, and for cloud-based management and analysis we have “FortiCloud” services. Many times
customers prefer to purchase a services bundle so that they can get all the services they need and save money
when compared with purchasing the services individually.
 Routing

There are two subscription service bundles available. The first is the Unified Threat Management - or
UTM - bundle. This is focused on the small- to medium-sized SMB market and includes services like next-
generation firewall, antivirus, web filtering, and antispam. The second subscription bundle is the
Enterprise bundle. For the distributed enterprise market, position this bundle. It includes all the UTM
bundle services and also includes cloud sandbox, mobile security, and anti-botnet.

5—We also offer hardware bundles that include hardware plus support service and FortiGuard
subscription services. This is one of the most popular offerings amongst our customers, so position this up
front. Hardware bundles are available as either UTM bundles or Enterprise bundles. So for example, if a
customer is looking for a hardware enterprise bundle with 24x7 support service, you would quote: FG-
60F-BDL-980-DD.
 Routing

So, as you have seen, Fortinet SD-WAN is the best option that includes best of breed SD-WAN and best of breed
security. FortiGate provides all these features in base platform, providing the simplest way to turn on SD-WAN.

Fortinet is also proven for NGFW security, which is missing in 90% of other SD-WAN vendors.

So, tell your customers to evaluate Fortinet SD-WAN at no additional cost. All it takes is a simple upgrade.
