Commentary
While the advantage lay with India at this time yesterday, it lies firmly with the Kiwis, 24 hours on, and they'll be
thinking about labouring away towards a healthy first-innings lead to pile up the pressure on India, who can't
afford another inch of leniency with the ball. They have to spit venom tomorrow if they are to make a contest
out of this, with a dogged middle-order coming up tomorrow. On that note, it's Rishi Roy, signing off at the half-
way mark of THE Test, alongside Sagar, Vineet, Ramki and Mukesh. May the raingods bless us with a replica of
today, tomorrow. Cheerio!
Stumps, Day 3: 18:31 Local Time, 5:31AM NZST, 23:01 IST: Those of you waking up in New Zealand to catch
the final half hour of play, go back to bed and sleep in. It's stumps on Day 3, but we've had a lot more cricket
than we could've hoped for, given the original forecast for today. 12 wickets have fallen, and we're 28 away from
a result in 9 sessions. Sounds doable, right? That said, India haven't been at their best with the ball, but have
been unlucky at the same time, but have been duly rewarded with some ugly wickets at the end of the day.
Stat: Conway's wicket was Ishant Sharma's 200th Test wicket away from home
18:28 Local Time, 17:28 GMT, 22:58 IST: It looks like they're rushing off. The bails have been flicked off,
because the light isn't sufficient for play to carry on. Potentially 32 more minutes of play left (refer to time-
stamp and do some math you couch potatoes). For now, the two Kiwi veterans are rushing off, but the Indians
looking far more charged than they were three balls ago. Conway's wicket has infused some energy into them...
48.6 Ishant to Ross Taylor, no run, off and middle line, angling in from a length, Taylor almost falls across with
the momentum from his back-and-across trigger, but keeps his head steady to defend it back down the wicket
48.5 Ishant to Ross Taylor, no run, fuller length ball on off-stump, right on the money, Ross Taylor is a bit
tentative about getting forward, pushes it off the outside half towards cover
48.4 Ishant to Conway, out Caught by Shami! Not exactly the traditional wicket ball, but India have got their man
at the business end of the day! All the plays and misses and close shaves have been rewarded with an ugly
wicket, but that's how life works sometimes. Ride your luck. A poor one on the pads, Conway goes all-out with
an uppish flick, and Shami stretches himself to his left at wide mid-on and holds onto a catch, hobbling, almost
falling over. India desperately needed this, and at the fag-end of the day, they'll be pumped with this. The
dangerous Conway, the game's first half-centurion, departs. Conway c Shami b Ishant 54(153) [4s-6]
48.3 Ishant to Conway, no run, tentative poke, hops off a short of length, seaming sharply away, and Conway
has left the bat hanging - not close to the ball, but he's disappointed in himself...
Some dark clouds coming in, so we've got a possibility of the lightmeter coming out soon.
48.2 Ishant to Conway, no run, back of a length ball on off-stump, right on the money this time, and Conway
defends compactly
48.1 Ishant to Conway, no run, not close enough to the stumps despite the angle in, straightens off the seam,
but that's left alone easily
47.6 Bumrah to Williamson, no run, back of a length ball on offstump, and that's defended compactly off the
backfoot with a tap on the head into the off-side
47.5 Bumrah to Williamson, no run, beaten! 86mph/139kmph, beating one of the most compact techniques is
rather difficult, but he's got it to land in the corridor, and seaming away past the tight defence of Williamson
Ravi: Every one talking about bumrah being seam bowler. I think the hattrick he took at kingston, he swung the
ball a lot.
47.4 Bumrah to Williamson, no run, angling in but not close enough to the stumps, seams away from a back of
a length and that's left alone with ease by KW
47.3 Bumrah to Williamson, no run, pitches it up towards the off-stump, Williamson stays front-on after his
trigger and defends right under his eyes
47.2 Bumrah to Williamson, no run, short of length ball at the 4th stump line, Williamson is across in his trigger
to get on top of the bounce and defends with soft hands towards point
47.1 Bumrah to Williamson, no run, that's not going to bother Williamson, one of the world's best - a short of
length ball far too wide outside off, and it's left alone
