How do you define art?

If we define art as something that is created into being, then art will always have function.
Everything that is created always has a purpose and reason for its creation, as mundane or as
purposive as it may be.
 
The definition of the function of art should not be limited to whether art can be exploited for
human consumption or that art is a means by which something is achieved. Many artists would
argue that art serves no ulterior purposes but is purely an end in itself. Art for art's sake. "L'art
