I agree that a charismatic ruler is different from a traditional ruler because a charismatic ruler is prone to

bring changes for the greater good where as a traditional ruler continues the age old customs and
traditions with mere reforms in it and most of the times following them irrationally.

The vision of the charismatic ruler is completely different and that inspires others to think out of the
box. He perceive the extraordinary characteristics of an individual and often leads to a social revolution
to bring about good changes and curbing the social evils. Weber stated that a charismatic leader is often
the head of a new social movement and the one instilled with the divine or supernatural powers almost
like some religious prophet. I feel that he is a strong personality who declines the age old toxic
patrimonialism and feudalism existing in the name of traditions. He is someone who rejects the idea of
following traditions irrationally rather aims to bring a change in the society creating an atmosphere of
rationality and understanding.

Traditional authority which is legitimately used by the sanctity of tradition passes down the ability and
the right to rule through heredity. Hence, it brings negligible social change and continues being the way
it was since time immemorial. Such traditional rulers are impersonal and irrational.

Charismatic leaders are driven by their convictions and commitment to their cause and thus they focus
on transforming the society to make a status quo better. For example, charismatic leaders like Mother
Teresa or Sir Winston Churchill worked to inspire the mass using their unconventional behaviour and
sensibility toward the environment. They brought about social changes through there deep
commitment.

Traditional rulers are concerned with the race class gender and the dominant features that they have
witnessed in the rule of their ancestors. They tend to hold on to all those rules once they occupy that
position to maintain it because they feel obligated towards those. For example, patriarchy is a tradition
that is is evident in our society since time in memorial and no traditional ruler has ever dared to
challenge it to question it or to let go with it. This is because somewhere patriarchy has been legitimate
missed by all the traditional rulers because of its long-standing custom and they feel that this is the way
of life. Where as we have seen many charismatic rulers advocating against it thus charismatic and
traditional ruler is different because a charismatic ruler tends to break the social evils are the age old
customs that a traditional ruler can't let go of.

On one hand it is true that charismatic leaders to bring changes in a society but they might not learn
from the past mistakes that a traditional leader does. The world needs charismatic leaders to fight for
equality of life and a better world and to bring about convictions and changes but the world also needs
traditional leaders to continue the customs and traditions which has been our root and that guides us
through the differences between right and wrong.
