To whom it may concern:

I have known Ms. Krystal Petty for the better part of four years. First, as a pre-k teacher, she was able to show
amazing gains in student achievement while also specifically targeting socio-emotional growth of little ones.
She is an advocate for students with special needs, and is instrumental in the development of accurate
individualized educational goals for her students. During my tenure as her pre-k principal, she demonstrated
then that she is a colleague that is concerned about more than what transpires in her classroom. She
participated in leadership teams, and teachers constantly would seek her advice on instructional matters. As
a principal intern, Ms. Petty demonstrates not only great insights into what teachers need to be more
successful instructionally, but knows how to gain their trust and thus improve student achievement. Ms.
Petty possesses extraordinary technology skills; this is a tool that is aligned with the changes teaching and
learning are requiring in this twenty-first century. As an intern, she was jokingly labeled “school tech”
because she always supported teachers with technology issues in order to maximize instructional time. She
knows how to work with students and families in order to improve disciplinary matters and create a team
approach at supporting student discipline, not just to enact discipline on a matter, but to improve things long
term together. As an intern, I made sure she had access to information and practice opportunities not just
with the assistant principal but with me; she knows more about budgets, campus improvement planning, how
to open a school year to how to close it than most folks in her position; she took to these challenges and
absorbed information readily. I could go on and on about Ms. Petty’s skills, but let me sum up things most
clearly; I have been a principal for over twenty years, and my word is my bond. I have mentored interns that
are now principals and superintendents, yet I have not seen Ms. Petty’s equal comparatively. Were I not to
retire this 2020-21 school year, I would have made sure Ms. Petty was on my staff as my assistant principal.

Sincerely,
