interpretation of what you read in this module.
1. What are the characteristics of a technologically enabled organization?
The power of what technology can really do is being seen and embraced by people who, before
now, never considered themselves technologists. To stay competitive, companies must commit to
transforming themselves into full technological businesses. As we move from a technology focused to a
service defined world, technological transformation is becoming a top priority for business leaders. The
characteristics of a technologically enabled organization are:
 They are willing to transform
They share a willingness to transform themselves through digital innovation and
continual digital development, and they often embrace CXO-level ownership of their digital
future by adding new, top-level positions such as a Chief Digital Officer.
 They are customer centric
A healthy obsession with improving the customer experience is the foundation of any
transformation. A mindset focused on the end-to-end customer experience permeates the
company. They have processes that enable them to capture and learn from every customer
interaction, positive or negative which help them to regularly test assumptions about how
customers are using digital and constantly fine-tune the experience.
 They are data driven
Digitally driven organizations recognize the power, value and potential of their digital
data; they recognize the need to create new forms of digital data and they are working to identify
ways to exploit and monetize what already exists.
 They are financially savvy
Most organizations focus their digital investments on customer-facing solutions without
realizing they can extract just as much value, if not more, from investing in back office functions
that drive operational efficiencies. Digital transformation is more than just finding new revenue
streams; it’s also about creating value by reducing the costs of doing business.
 They know what ‘fast’ means
Organizations that are really ready for the advantages of a digital future know that status
quo just won’t do; they accept that they need a transformed IT function that can operate and
serve their business at ‘the speed of digital’. Rapid decision-making is critical in a dynamic
digital environment.
Technological transformation is uniquely challenging, touching every function and
business unit while also demanding the rapid development of new skills and investments that are
very different from business as usual. To succeed, business leaders need to move beyond vague
statements of intent and focus on hard wiring digital into their organization’s structures,
processes, systems, and incentives.
2. How can information technology contribute to unstructured decisions?
The main objective of information systems is helping decision makers by providing accurate and
time based information helping them in making the right decisions in turbulent environment.
Technology makes information available to decision makers, helping to improve the quality and speed
of decision making. Information is a key ingredient in the generation of alternatives for decision-
making. One has to have information about possible solutions to generate alternatives. Based on the
information about the suitability of the alternatives, a choice is made to select the best alternative.
Management Information Systems helps in solving both structured and unstructured problem
environments.

3. Is there any role for batch processing given today’s technology?

Batch processing is a technique for automating and processing multiple transactions as a single
group. Batch processing is the process by which a computer completes batches of jobs, often
simultaneously, in non-stop, sequential order. It's also a command that ensures large jobs are computed
in small parts for efficiency during the debugging process. In fact, using batch processing can reduce a
company's reliance on other expensive pieces of hardware, making it a relatively inexpensive solution
that helps businesses save money and time. Without the possibility of user error, batch processes are
completed in the most efficient way possible.

4. Why do you suppose inquiry-only applications were developed instead of fully on-line systems?
Inquiry-only applications were developed instead of fully on-line systems because inquiry
method is a student-centered learning approach with the concept of students who are actively involved

online offered in a completely online environment, no in person or on campus meetings. Many courses
are offered in an asynchronous learning mode, meaning no scheduled meeting or exam times.

decision maker?
