AXXIS GII™ Benefits

The new AXXIS GII™ detonator is now available:

The AXXIS™ Digital Initiation System with the new GII™ detonator has
the following benefits to you.

Flexible: Combined with BlastMap III™ complex blast timing designs can be achieved
consistently thus ensuring reliable results for grade control, wall control, heave,
vibration and decked blasting.

Safer: Higher resistance to electrostatic discharge and high induced ground

currents make the GII™ detonator safer to use in all mining conditions.

Robust: The high-strength downlines, quality connectors and high-strength

detonator shells of the GII™ detonators ensure fewer blast delays caused by leakage
and fewer lost holes resulting from cable damage.

Easy to use: The popular ease of use of the AXXIS™ Digital Initiation System
remains with the GII™ detonator. Logging of detonators is quick, testing reliable
and programming and firing of each blast is free of challenge.
AXXIS™ is a fully programmable, accurate and easy-to-use electronic delay
detonator system. Additional safety systems have been built into the AXXIS™
system which include a new generation AXXIS GII™ detonator which provides better
resistance to pulses of high induced electrical current.

For safety, AXXIS™ offers a full two-way communication between the blasting box
and detonators. During detonator logging, there is no direct communication with
the detonators. Using the AXXIS™ System, you can program AXXIS GII™ detonators
to fire accurately at any time between 0 and 10000 ms at one millisecond intervals.
You can fire up to 600 detonators from one AXXIS™ Blasting Box.

The AXXIS™ system was developed in house at BME, one of the largest surface
explosives companies in Africa and listed on the JSE through its holding company
Omnia. BME provides the AXXIS™ technology and associated technical support to
the international market either directly or through various distributors.

With the extensive experience of BME and the management team, AXXIS™ is
able to give customers peace of mind both in terms of product supply, technical
support and performance.

The AXXIS™ Blasting Box is the unit from which all detonators on a blast are
programmed and fired. The AXXIS™ Blasting Box can be used as a stand-alone
unit with a blasting line connected directly to the detonators, or in a wireless
configuration with two or more Blasting Boxes. A log file that cannot be tampered
with is created for each blast that automatically uploads to the logger for future
analysis if required

SPECIFICATIONS
Voltage: 24 volt rechargeable LiIion batteries
Battery Life: 15 hours x 500 detonator blasts (battery life dependent on the
number of detonators in each blast)
Operating Temperature Range: -20 to +60 CUser Interfaces: Black and white
LCD screen using two buttons to navigate through menus and fire a blast
Communications Interface: USB port
Number of Detonators per Blasting Box: 600 / link 500
Wireless range between boxes: 2000m line-of-site. 1000m non line of site.
Communication: Two-way communication between blasting box and detonators.
All detonators are interrogated before blasting time. The blast can be fired using
wireless communication between a remote blasting box and the blast.
The AXXIS™ Tester is a small low current device that is used to test a detonator
or surface lines with detonators connected to them. Leakage is a critical issue
with all electronic systems, and is the main reason for delays in blasting as leakage
disrupts communication between the blasting box and detonators. The AXXIS™
Tester helps to avoid these problems.

Function: Device for safely testing detonators during loading, stemming and
before blasting time.
Maximum Number of Detonators: The maximum number of detonators on a
linethat can be tested is 50.
Maximum Current Output: 20 mA
Power Supply: 3.7 V Lithium-Ion Rechargeable battery
The AXXIS GII™ detonator is a standard size detonator that will
function in all standard sized boosters that are used in non-electric
blasting. AXXIS GII™ detonators use 2-core double insulated downline cables.

SPECIFICATIONS
Case of Detonator: Aluminium alloy
Detonator Size: Fits any standard booster
Cable Type: Twin core copper cable, double insulated
Spool Description: Cable spooled in shrink-wrapped spools with detonator feed
from centre of spool for safety
Standard Lengths: 10m - 20m - 30m - 40m - 50m - 60m - 70m (other lengths
available on request)
Connector: Yellow pin-hinged two-way connector with intelligent electronic data
capability
Firing time range: 0 to 10 000 ms in 1 ms intervals
Accuracy: < 1ms scatter
Operating Temperature: -20 to +60 C
Storage Temperature: -30 to + 50 C
Shelf Life: At recommended storage temperature - 48 months
Safety Function: AXXIS GII™ detonators do not include any permanent energy source
and there is no direct communication with the detonator during logging. AXXIS
GII™ detonators will only function with AXXIS™ Blasting Boxes. Special security PIN

codes are required to operate the system. A deadman’s switch disarms all
detonators if the blast needs to be aborted at short notice.
