Youth Resist

NARRATIVE REPORT

“The youth is the hope of our future”, this is one of the most famous lines here in the Philippines
that came from none other than our national hero, Doctor Jose P. Rizal. This is famous not only because it
came from a well-known patriot of our country, but also because it has an underlying meaning to it. The
youth of the new generation plays an important role in our society. They will be our nation’s hope for
transformation and amendment towards the greater good of our country. Nowadays, our society is
molding young leaders step-by-step. Many empowerment activities are being formulated to train the
youth’s capabilities. The future of our nation is in the hands of the new generation, they can also give a
promising prospect for our society.

Additionally, a growing movement in the Philippines is being recognized because of its

significant ambition. The “Youth Resist” according to its mission, it is a “movement of young people and
youth organizations against populism and fascism, drug war killings, and political persecution in the
Philippines”. The said movement is said to strive for a just, compassionate, and democratic society. This
can also be associated to Dr. Jose Rizal, for they do not use violence and brutality in defending our
democracy.

Two well-known communities had partnered up to discuss a very important topic. As mentioned
earlier, “Youth Resist” is a movement and it advocates justice and rehabilitation wherein it accentuates on
the basis of the human rights. Youth resist is also known as a “Political Organization” and aims to cease
the never ending political persecution and wide forcible oppression in the Philippines. Based on the
information that’s posted on their Facebook page, YouthResist was established on 2017 at the height of
the killings that occurred on that year. It was launched by various organizations such as the Millennials
Against Dictators (MAD), Student Council Alliance of the Philippines (SCAP), and Akbayan Youth (AY)
at St. Scholastica's College, Manila.

Consequently, the President of a well-known organization in the Lyceum of the Philippines

University has shared a splendid news through her Facebook Account. On June 20, 2020, the President of
the yFACT-LPU made a post in Facebook sharing her gratitude and appreciation towards the webinar she
attended. The webinar was initiated by the YouthResist entitled “YouthResist’s Democracy Laboratory”.
Many students are struggling every day to harbor the needs of learning despite of the pandemic. Amidst
this, the endeavor to learn and to educate is still present for students and organizations like YFACT-LPU.
The President of the said organization even used the hashtag #TuloyAngFACTSession to show the
institution’s allegiance along with their dedication for their advocacy and purpose.

Of course, other universities also attended the said webinar. The webinar was attended by
different organizations and universities from the Philippines. The YouthResist shared their intuitions for
our society. They envision having a democratic society that provides equal opportunities and ensures the
rights and dignity of all. Throughout the webinar, there were 3 breakout sessions. Each of these breakout
sessions were tackled one by one. This being said, the attendees were authorized to listen throughout the
discussion. The first one is about Press Freedom then followed by Healthcare Not Militarism and China
and Philippine Sovereignty. The attendees had the opportunity to share their knowledge and
understanding about the said topics.
The Facebook post made by the yFACT-LPU’s President includes her words of gratitude and
thankfulness to YouthResist for initiating the webinar, giving her a wonderful experience. She also gave
her final remarks to YouthResist saying, “Rest assured that the yFACT-LPU and IYU will uphold their
principle of promoting critical thinking, responsible use of social media and safe spaces among Filipino
Youth.” On the other hand, YouthResist also shared their gratitude in regards to this. On June 24, 2020, at
exactly 10:49 AM, YouthResist sent a message to Ms. Jho Maquin, YFACT-LPU’s president; the
message is composed of words of appreciation and acknowledgement in regards to them participating in
YouthResist’s Democracy Laboratory. The message also says that the contribution of the attendees has
inspired them to keep resisting, especially now that we are facing threats to our democracy and human
rights.

Let us all be an empowering individuals, not only for ourselves but also for our motherland.
Small steps at a time, we could eventually mold ourselves into a great servant of our nation. We are the
hope of our future, and we are they key for our nation’s prosperity. Just like YouthResist, we should build
and defend our democracy through a hopeful and non-violent resistance.
Insights

On July 27, 2020, a magnificent event was held by the LPU’s Young Filipino Advocates of
Critical Thinking. It was successful and definitely worth our time. The heavy rainfall didn’t become a
hurdle to all of the attendees for the #FACTitipon ended with a blast. Being a new-comer of the yFACT-
LPU, I could conclude that it was my first #FACTitipon and also my first time joining a virtual
orientation. Everything was great, the hosts, the speakers; it was a remarkable experience that I will
forever remember. The topics were very inspiring, and it has touched the inner part of me positively. Not
only that, but it also altered my beliefs and perspective on how I should think about certain circumstances.
The pieces of advice that were mentioned throughout the said orientation will surely help in remolding a
better version of myself towards the greater good of my future.

This being said, I want to provide my insights regarding some officers who had offered a great
amount of effort to make this orientation successful. Different officers have different duties to do, they’re
mostly given big responsibilities that are needed to be performed properly. For this, three officers on the
yFACT-LPU greatly contributed to the #FACTitipon. These officers are also known as the “Vice
Presidents” of the yFACT-LPU and they’re also the ones who embody the Executive Board of the
yFACT-LPU. Towards the end of the orientation, these officers were assigned to speak pertaining to

the yFACT-LPU and they’re also the ones who embody the Executive Board of the yFACT-LPU.
Towards the end of the orientation, these officers were assigned to speak pertaining to the topics/subjects
that were assigned to them. The first one is the Vice President of Internal Affairs, which is none other
than Ms. Camilla Ricarto. She explained her part perfectly, and even though the internet connection that
time was having some problems, she delivered clearly. She was assigned to give out the meaning of
yFACT-LPU and clarified the mission of the said organization. Ms. Camilla Ricarto was able to give out
her best in terms of explicating it on the attendees, and she showed it gracefully. Throughout her
explanation of what yFACT-LPU is, she shared some of her personal experiences to further expound it.
Being a Vice President for Internal Affairs must be really challenging, but it seems like she’s enjoying the
position that was given to her and that’s the important thing in leadership. On the other hand, the next
officer to speak up is also a Vice President but was appointed to a different office. Mr. Sean Leonida, the
Vice President for External Affairs oriented the attendees about the organizational chart of the yFACT-
LPU. He explained and gave out information regarding it. Just like the Internal Affairs, the external
affairs consists of 5 sub-offices, that the Vice President needs to manage. This is a whole responsibility,
for that’s a lot especially for upcoming events and occasions. Mr. Sean Leonida explained it clearly to the
attendees without any sign of muttering and hesitations, he presented it with full pleasure and he seems
willing to expound it for attendees who are having a difficult time understanding it. He also discussed the
offices and committee departments that are included in yFACT. Lastly, the third Vice President also
discussed some important outlines about a system that yFACT-LPU has come up with. Mr. Angelo
Raymundo, the Vice President for Operational Affairs is the third and last to speak up about the
orientation proper. He explained it clearly on the attendees, especially the great announcement he
announced. Mr. Angelo Raymundo further unraveled the system that YFACT-LPU has come up with and
shared a piece of great information about it. He flawlessly delivered it to the attendees and presented it
distinctly. It was the ultimate surprise for some officers, especially to the committees.

Overall, all of these three officers gave out a tremendous effort towards the special event of
Young Filipino Advocates of Critical Thinking. They presented ideally for all the attendees and has
shown a great amount of endeavor in performing their assigned roles and responsibilities.

NARRATIVE REPORT

Right now, we are currently experiencing a big challenge that is certainly affecting all of us. Due
to the consequences of the Corona Virus, we are given an obstacle to face the “new normal” of our
country. Many of us had difficulty accepting this new regime, that’s why many companies as well as
universities had closed down. Countless numbers had no work as of the moment, and many students had
stopped temporarily for they cannot meet the outstanding guidelines for the “new normal”. We can
conclude that this is definitely difficult for all of us, and some can’t even bear this new kind of living. On
the other hand, some schools and companies still continue to operate amidst this pandemic. One great
example of this is the growing organization in the Lyceum of the Philippines University, known as the
Young Advocates of Critical Thinking, in short yFACT.

yFACT advocates in promoting critical thinking and informed decision making for Filipinos. The
organization itself wants to help our fellow countrymen in being a responsible user on different social
media platforms. This being said, it is apparent that they would also want to train and lecture their officers
and committees about it, to help them in spreading/educating others about their cause. On July 14, 2020,
yFACT-LPU posted a photo on their Facebook page about their magnificent announcement. It is
regarding an event that they’ll be hosting, as they welcome their 200+ new members! The officers as well
as their committees expressed their enjoyment by engaging through that Facebook post. They’ve shared,
liked, and commented on their excitement with the upcoming event.

That upcoming event is labeled as the FACTitipon 2020, wherein it is an online orientation via
Zoom, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. This marvelous event is about preparing the future leaders amidst this
on-going pandemic. It is crystal clear that yFACT-LPU wants to mold future pioneers in the coming
future, together with advocating the responsible use of social media. Many members of the organization
had expressed their excitement and their expectation for the upcoming event.

After a day from its announcement, yFACT posted an update on their Facebook page about their
upcoming event. On July 15, 2020, yFACT released a post about the expectations of their officers for the
upcoming orientation. Written on the post, “Let's hear it from our own FACT Buddies as what do they
expect in our upcoming first virtual zoom gathering in welcoming and meeting the whole members of the
LPU Young Filipino Advocates for Critical thinking.” In this, the statements of the FACT Buddies are
included in the post. Mr. Edward Cagas, the Director for Public Relations and Communications stated
that he’s looking forward to the members of the YFACT-LPU will coordinate in the said event. He also
gave out an inspiring statement saying that he wants them to see this not as a responsibility but as an
action they must do as a good citizen. This is a good representation of what YFACT disembodies, which
is to help our fellow countrymen to be a good citizen by being literate in terms of using social media
platforms properly.

On the other hand, Associate Director for Events Management Mr. John Clavero gave out a
statement of his expectations as well. He looks forward on having a new family within the university and
has only one vision for it, which is to promote the responsible use of social media and to battle fake news.
His expectation is simple yet comparable to what yFACT aims to be. Another statement, coming from
Mr. John Vincent Raguero the Associate Director for Public Relations and Communications said that this
upcoming orientation would offer various experiences for him where he can interact and learn who makes
up the yFACT-LPU, he also looks forward on learning more from the organization and become a
responsible person of using social media. Just like Mr. John Clavero, he also envisions to learn and meet
new people within the organization and for the upcoming orientation. Lastly, is Ms. Michaela Torres the
Director for Logistics and Purchasing, she stated that she looks forward on gaining more knowledge
about YFACT and also on how to be an effective student leader. Her statement may be brief, but it was
clear that she expects being educated about the organization and how to be a great successful pioneer for
the student body.

Indeed, it is evident that the FACT Buddies they have high expectation on the upcoming
FACTitipon. All of their statements are positively and are looking forward for the orientation. The
yFACT-LPU also expressed through their Facebook page that they’re thrilled to welcome the new FACT
Buddies with their arms wide open in starting a new set of young leaders.

NARRATIVE REPORT

The Young Advocates of Critical Thinking in the Lyceum of the Philippines University is a
notable organization that upholds substantial and considerable advocacy. Consequently, the yFACT-LPU
advocates the responsible use of social media and would love to educate our fellow Filipinos about it. In
this regard, yFACT-LPU aims to disseminate their ideas and known propositions of it, to cultivate our
countrymen. At the same time, yFACT-LPU also advocates critical thinking and informed decision
making through meaningful activities. On that premise, yFACT-LPU is hosting a big event of their
organization to mold the young leaders of our future and also be their aid in spreading their cause.

Excitements are very normal for people like us, especially when we are expecting highly on a
specific thing/circumstances that deeply interests us. Additionally, this could be equated to what a
particular organization in a renowned university in Manila feels. As the time of the biggest online
orientation of the Lyceum of the Philippines University approaches, the Young Advocates of Critical
Thinking can’t seem to hide their excitement. The day after their first post of the FACT Buddies sharing
their insights as well their expectations for the incoming FACTitipon, on July 16, 2020, yFACT shared
another batch of these statements! Just like their first post, 4 FACT Buddies shared their intuitions about
the upcoming event.

The mentioned statements came from different FACT Buddies within the yFACT organization.
On the second post they’ve published, out of these four FACT Buddies, one is a Director and three of
them are Associate Directors. The first one came from the Office of the Vice President for Internal
Affairs, an Associate Director for Documentations, Ms. Shiela Condada. She shared her insights and what
she would expect in the upcoming big event. She mentioned in the first part of her statement the reality
we are currently facing, which is widespread of Fake News and Hoax information. She also included that
in some cases, distinguishing information if it is authentic or not is hard nowadays and this problem
should be acknowledged immediately. She ended her statement by asserting that she expects to learn new
ideas and learnings throughout the discussion in the upcoming orientation. This kind of statement is
foreseeable especially for events like this, which is an orientation. In an organization, orientations are
done to educate and introduce newcomers to a specific institution. This is also a kind of salutation for the
new members of a community.

Another officer gave out a statement regarding this. Coming from the Office of the Operational
Affairs, Mr. Jhon Lara the Associate Director for Content, shared his insights about it. Throughout his
statement, he expressed his pure excitement with the upcoming FACTitipon and expects to see his co-
FACT members virtually. He also stated that he wants to learn from everyone, he then ends his statement
by stating that we should start learning and criticizing virtual information/issues so that we could deliver
it to others with the right knowledge. His account towards this is very accurate and his views about
criticizing virtual information were on point. Because nowadays, delivering information to others without
knowing if it’s genuine or not is risky, especially if it is shared/delivered through social media. Another
FACT Buddy shared a positive insight into the yFACT-LPU and to the upcoming FACTitipon. Ms.
Dannica Zabala the Associate Director for Sponsorship expressed her definite intuition about it. She says
that surely, YFACT-LPU is full of surprises and believes that the upcoming FACTitipon is full of
numerous fun activities that involve critical thinking. She ends this by stating that she’s certain that all
FACT Buddies will learn about this event. Apparently, her statement towards this upcoming event is full
of positive expectations that without a doubt make the FACT Buddies be on their seats. Last but not the
least, Mr. Ehvenzer Legaspi, the Director for PR and Communication, he stated that the FACTitipon will
eventually help him to become mature and to be more critical. He gave out a very satisfactory insight,
saying that the FACTitipon will be a great stepping stone to further educate Filipinos extensively.

Overall, seems like the FACT Buddies are anticipating for this event and it is quite obvious from
their positive insights and expectations. Again, the YFACT-LPU expressed their excitement in accepting
the new batch of FACT Buddies.

On July 17, 2020, yFACT posted a series of pictures showing the statements given by their very

FACTitipon. The first one came from the office of the Vice President for Internal Affairs, the Director for
Documentations Ms. Ysabel Lacsamana. On the first part of her statement, she mentioned a fact that all of

Buddies, the yFACT LPU doesn’t fail each individual to surprise them with wonderful opportunities and
scopes. She then ended her saying by describing her thoughts about the yFACT-LPU organization. She
goes on saying that “Since YFACT’s main channel is social media, it encourages others to have social
media awareness most especially in acquiring news and information”. Which is indeed true, as of the
moment, many people are using social media for news, knowing that we’re currently living in the “new
normal”, gadgets and social media platforms are very essential as of the moment.

The second FACT Buddy also came from the Office of the Vice President for Internal Affairs, the
Associate Director for Committee Relations, Ms. Mariel Tayco. She also expressed her excitement on the
upcoming FACTitipon, stating that she’s excited in engaging more and be aligned with the current
situation we are facing. True enough, just like mentioned earlier, we are facing a big hurdle and we must
take full attention with this subject matter. At the same time, she looks forward on developing new skills
and to expand their knowledge as a student leader. In regard of this, the online orientation hosted by the
yFACT-LPU is about the development of youth leaders. This upcoming orientation will also tackle about
training the FACT buddies towards being an effective and proficient student leader. She ended her
statement by indicating that “We are ready to gain information on how to use the social media platforms
with corresponding responsibility wherein we can help to prevent circulation of fake news.”

The next one to share a statement about her expectations for the event is Ms. Elisha Morellos, a
Associate Director for Finance. She asserted that being part of the yFACT-LPU is such an overwhelming
experience for her, and she feels deeply honored to stand with this organization. She further expressed her
gratitude and appreciation towards yFACT-LPU. Furthermore, she looks forward on more opportunities
like this emphasizing the youths out there. This reflects her indebtedness towards the organization, and
highly looks up to the yFACT-LPU, especially for their upcoming event. Lastly is Ms. Steffanie
Valenzuela, the Director for Audit, she stated that she’s hoping for a fruitful event that will reflect the
organization’s advocacy. She further exclaims that the digital world/social media is a very dangerous
place, and shared her point of views about it. She gave some pointers that we should help spread
awareness about this on-going problem. At the end, she gave a powerful yet short message stating that
“…clicks are like votes in a democratic country–it is power, let’s use it wisely.”

CITHM Turnover

NARRATIVE REPORT

Throughout the years, we could identify the changes that are happening in our surroundings.
Nothing stays forever; plants wilt, some organisms decompose, and even the stars we see above us also
dies. Everything is temporary and nothing stays permanent. Speaking of, our ancestors are one of the
great examples of it. Most of our ancestors already departed from this life but left their traces to be
remembered by the next generation of their households. These traces also symbolizes a “turning over”,
for the new/younger generation will supposedly take the place of their late relatives/ancestors. This will
go on and on, generation to generation. Additionally, this can also be compared to “Turnover
Ceremonies”, wherein current officers are replaced by new set of officers, substituting the new batch of
representatives for positions endowed by the late officers.

A student government in the Lyceum of the Philippines University has announced to their
Facebook page that they’ll be having a Turnover Ceremony. Based on their post, they expressed their
excitement on the approaching date of their event they stated “Get ready for another productive, effective,
and quality leadership in the College of International Tourism and Hospitality Management.” This event
will be held through online, which makes this the first ever “Online Turnover Ceremony.” CITHM
asserted that the said event will be going live on their Facebook page on the 12th of July, 2020, at exactly
9:00 pm. CITHM also announced that The Young Advocates of Critical Thinking of LPU has partnered
up with them and introduced as the Promotional Partner of the CITHM Student Government for the
Turnover Ceremony.

The growing organization in the Lyceum of the Philippines University, which is known as the
yFACT-LPU advocates the use of informative campaigns that will help in making Filipinos as
responsible users of social media. For this reason, yFACT became as the promotional partner of CITHM.
This is to further educate and inform Lyceans and other people about the marvelous ceremony that is
going to be conducted by the CITHM Student Government. This upholds yFACT’s advocacy that would
eventually mold the organization’s empowerment and delegation. Upon this, yFACT-LPU has expressed
their support by commenting and sharing on the posts of CITHM regarding on the upcoming ceremony.

As the date of the ceremony approaches, the CITHM can’t help to express their excitement.
Amidst this pandemic, this ceremony will still be advance and many officers are more than thrilled as
they prepare for the nearing event. On July 9, 2020, 3 days before the glorious event, CITHM posted on
their Facebook page a short video about the Turnover Ceremony. The link of their Facebook page was
also indicated there, as well as the name of their Promotional Partner which is yFACT-LPU, their
Multimedia sponsor was also mentioned in the video. CITHM stated in their post, “It has been indeed a
very successful term. We have faced several struggles and challenges brought by the global pandemic, but
it never stops us from doing our duties and mandate for the student body to uphold and protect the rights
and welfare of the student body.” Once again, the officers of yFACT showed their support for the CITHM
by commenting and sharing their posts. Most of their comments are about the on-going partnership of
CITHM Student Government with yFACT-LPU like “CITHM X YFACT LPU”. They also showed their
gratitude for being chosen as the promotional partner of CITHM.
Many days had passed, and the Turnover Ceremony has finally arrived! Many were excited about
this upcoming event, at last, the new batch of officers for the upcoming A.Y. 2020-2021 will be
announced and many people will witness this live event virtually! As of July 12, 2020, at exactly 9:00
pm, the CITHM Student Government has commenced a live video for their momentous event. It was
58:13 minutes long, and throughout the live video, the new set of officers expressed their gratitude and
appreciation for being chosen. Dr. Lilibeth Aragon, Dean of the College of International Tourism and
