NURSES ROLE IN DISASTER MANAGEMENT AT THE EMERGENCY RESPONE

Disaster management as an applied science that seeks and performs

systematic observation and analysis of disasters to improve action, prevention,
reduction, preparation, emergency response and recovery. The objectives of disaster
management are reducing or avoiding physical, economic and mental losses
experienced by individuals or communities and the State, reducing the suffering of
disaster victims, accelerating recovery, providing protection to refugees or
communities who have lost their places when their lives are threatened.

Efforts to deal with a disaster are carried out by emergency handling efforts
to save lives and protect property as well as dealing with disturbances and the
impact of damage, recovery by means of rehabilitation and reconstruction,
prevention, mitigation and preparedness

The role of nurses in disasters includes: searching and rescuing victims,

triage, providing first aid, moving victims to safer places or minimizing secondary
disasters, referring or bringing victims to the hospital for more adequate treatment,
making decisions about needs and countermeasures. immediate disaster, arranging
supplies of medicine, food and needs of refugees while in the evacuation post,
helping the community to recover and return to normal life as before the disaster.
The duties and roles of each disaster management team include:

1. Support team : Conduct a possible analysis of the risk of disasters that occur
2. Information management team : Provide information and guidance to disaster
victims and other hospital personnel
3. Search team : Search and rescue victims when a disaster occurs
4. Team temporary shelter : Establish a post and organize all the needs of disaster
victims
5. Fire fighting / evacuation team : Evacuate to the hospital if in the process of
rescue and evacuation there is a fire
6. The recovery team : Providing physical and psychological assistance to disaster
victims who were injured and lost family members
7. Reconstruction team : Consider the damaged area of the hospital
