My Immigrant's life

"My grandson, you don't know how the life was not easy a long time ago.
I was born in Europe, the old continent, from where a lot of people left it to
went in America to lived the american dream.
My family came from Poland and we were jewish, but we were persecuted. We
were also poor : we lived in a pitiful state's house (if we can call that a house). I had
two brothers and three sisters who were older than me. My parents died when I was
only 12 years old.
I was the last one to leave the country. I decided to go in America to build a
new life, to get married and create a new family. So I left Poland and I bought tickets
that were very expensive. I took a ship in 1870, when a big wave of immigration
began.
The trip was extremely long. I thought it lasted weeks or months, there were
some problemes because of the climate. Relieved to arrive in America, but there was
still a step : Ellis Island or "The Isle of Hope". I was very afraid about this step of the
trip. I guessed I didn't get through all the tests. I took my courage in both hands and I
passed successfully the stairs, the first test. Next a doctor checked me and then I
aswered the questions that a person asked me. I passed the both exams. I felt so joyful
to finally joined the USA. I was accepted, I could'nt be able to get over it, you
know !! Before to leave Ellis Island, I got back my baggages and I sent a letter to my
brother who I kept in contact with.
I entered in American with no money to buy a living place. Fortunately, a
charity organization who helped the immigrants to begin life there, found me a job. I
worked hard in bad conditions, but with perseverance, courage and strength, I made
money and I moved in Michigan with my wife, your grandma, to had children and
lived in a bigger house. I worked for a big company and we were the happiest family
in the world ! END.
I hope you understood my life, her complexity and all the events, good or
wrong, that a life may be composed of."
