Information about gender

Modern methods of communication are seen as a good way of reaching the masses and
creates a good method platform on which information about gender equality can be spread.
The power of the traditional media which has maintained some of the current views has
dissipated. There is an opportunity for players from different fields to come together and
remove some of the stereotypes which have oppressed some of the sections of the society.
Profiles used for targeting sections of the society need to be avoided and the necessary action
taken to remove them to ensure gender oppression is avoided (Pollard, 2019). Masculine
behaviours which exist in society have been exposed as the way of reducing the involvement
of women. In order to change perceptions of consumers of media today, the images which are
presented need to change overtimes. The increased depiction of groups in a different way will
remove the oppression which exists in society today and make it possible for gender equality
(Whaley & Tucker, 2004). There is a psychological aspect which the media controls in the
society and if it changes, the people will change accordingly. Target audiences will change if
they feel that they can work with others to reach the other genders and create positive
relations. When gender oppression reduces, some of the depictions which have remained and
which continue will dissipate.

Conclusion
In most of the cases, popular culture determines the way the society behaves and also helps in
documenting people’s lives. Such popular culture is directed by the media which exists at any
one particular time. In most of the cases, what is depicted in the media is seen as the correct
way of acting which is why gender oppression is seen in the manner in which they are
portrayed (Whaley & Tucker, 2004). The women have been oppressed in the media and their
portrayal often indicates or mirrors what exists in society. The media will not change their
depictions because they fear losing their audience (Rakow, 2016). However, there is a need
for them to be the lead agents of change and create an environment where there is respect for
both genders. If the media communicates the messages that women and men are equal,
incidents of gender oppression will dissipate because the ability of each gender will be
recognized.
